Intel lists AV1 and H.264 encoding support for Arc A-Series and B-Series graphics cards, and YouTube accepts both codecs for live ingestion at up to 60 fps. But codec compatibility is not proof that every Arc card, computer, streaming app, or loop will sustain a reliable 4K60 broadcast. Check the exact hardware and software, configure YouTube’s recommended settings, then test and monitor stream health.
What Intel Arc support does—and does not—tell you
Intel’s codec-support information, last reviewed April 7, 2026, lists encoding support for AVC/H.264, HEVC/H.265, VP9, and AV1 across its listed Arc product families, including Arc A-Series and B-Series. Support varies by product family and format, so “Intel Arc” alone is not enough to establish that a particular card supports the codec and encoding path you want. Check the exact model and your streaming application’s available hardware encoders in Intel’s Arc GPU codec-support table.
For a YouTube Live video loop, the relevant point is that Arc hardware encoding and YouTube’s accepted live codecs overlap: AV1 and H.264 are both options. This establishes technical compatibility in principle, not a guarantee of sustained output. The result on a particular system depends on its hardware configuration, software, the selected codec and settings, and the stability of its upload connection.
Recommended YouTube Live settings for 4K60
YouTube’s encoder guide recommends these video bitrates for 4K/2160p at 60 fps. The figures are YouTube’s published recommendations, not a measurement of any specific Arc system.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Codec | Recommended bitrate | Minimum bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| HEVC/H.265 | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are video bitrates. Your connection also needs capacity for audio and normal network variation, so a connection that only just matches the video target leaves little margin. The encoder guide specifies RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. At 4K, YouTube says low-latency optimization is unavailable and the stream is set to normal latency.
Choose between AV1 and H.264
At YouTube’s 4K60 recommendations, AV1 uses a lower video bitrate than H.264: 35 Mbps versus 50 Mbps. That difference can make AV1 attractive when the exact Arc card and streaming software both expose a supported AV1 hardware encoder. H.264 is also an accepted option, but plan around YouTube’s higher recommended bitrate. The cited guidance does not establish that one codec will look better or use less power on your particular setup.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
For an SDR stream, YouTube’s advanced guidance recommends Rec. 709 color and 8-bit video. YouTube lists H.265 for HDR and says AV1 is not supported for HDR; its AV1 guidance calls for at least two tile columns at 3840×2160 and above. Match the output color and HDR choices to your source and encoder rather than enabling HDR by default.
Use YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guide to check the settings for your selected resolution, frame rate, and codec. YouTube says it automatically detects the encoder settings you chose; test before starting and watch the stream-health indicators.

How to check whether your Arc system can hold the stream
- Identify the exact GPU. Look up its codec support in Intel’s Arc table. Do not assume every Arc-branded product or codec profile has identical capabilities.
- Confirm the encoder in your app. In the streaming software you plan to use, verify that the desired Arc hardware encoder—AV1 or H.264—is available. The Intel codec table alone does not establish compatibility with a particular application, driver, or operating system.
- Set YouTube-compatible output. Choose 3840×2160 at 60 fps, an accepted codec, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the recommended bitrate for that codec. Use RTMP/RTMPS and configure SDR color as Rec. 709 and 8-bit when that matches your content.
- Test a representative loop. Run a private or otherwise suitable test with the same video, audio, codec, bitrate, and duration you expect to use. Include representative motion and audio, then check the encoder and YouTube stream-health indicators for dropped frames, interruptions, or warnings.
- Check the upload connection under real conditions. A brief speed result does not establish that the connection will sustain a long broadcast. Leave headroom beyond the video bitrate and test at the time and on the network you intend to use.
What Intel’s four-encode statement means
Intel Support’s article, last reviewed December 23, 2024, says: “Generally, Intel Arc can support 4K@60fps with four AV1 encoder instances working simultaneously.” Intel also qualifies the practical limit: it depends on hardware configuration and software, and resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and memory configuration affect the number of instances. This is a general statement about concurrent AV1 encoding, not a model-specific guarantee or a benchmark proving that an individual YouTube loop will run reliably.
Common problems and what to check
- The app does not offer AV1 hardware encoding: Check the exact GPU’s supported formats, then confirm the app, driver, and selected encoder path. Use H.264 if it is available and supported in your setup; follow YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendation for 4K60.
- YouTube reports stream-health or connection issues: Check that the output uses CBR, the correct codec-specific bitrate, RTMP/RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe interval. Confirm the upload can sustain the stream with headroom, and inspect the app’s encoder and dropped-frame indicators.
- The stream is unstable despite compatible codecs: Compatibility does not establish sustained performance. Reduce the output demands for a test—such as resolution or frame rate—one at a time to isolate whether the limit is the encoder, software, system configuration, or connection.
- AV1 HDR output is not behaving as expected: YouTube’s guide says AV1 is not supported for HDR. For HDR, it lists H.265; for SDR, follow its Rec. 709 and 8-bit recommendations.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube loop rather than using your Arc computer to encode it, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer can be off; the service loops uploaded videos and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
