YouTube does not turn uploaded lesson files into an unattended live stream by itself. If a computer running OBS or another software encoder is sending the broadcast, that computer must stay on and connected.
Ways to stream lessons while your computer is off
The key distinction is where playback and encoding happen: a cloud service runs them on its servers, standalone hardware runs them on the device, and computer software runs them on your computer.

For an unattended lesson channel, a cloud service is the most direct route because your own computer does not have to run playback or transmit the broadcast. A standalone encoder is an alternative if you prefer dedicated equipment. YouTube’s encoder documentation explains that an encoder converts video to a digital format for streaming: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

How to prepare a YouTube channel and lesson stream
1. Check livestream access before scheduling
YouTube requires a verified channel with no livestreaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it in advance rather than immediately before a planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

2. Prepare the lesson files and playlist
Use recordings you are entitled to broadcast, and decide how lessons should repeat: in a fixed sequence, as a playlist that loops, or as scheduled content if the selected provider or device supports that workflow. Keep original lesson files in a separate, backed-up location. A continuous live broadcast should not be your only copy or archive.
3. Connect the chosen service or device to YouTube
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key from the Live Control Room. Enter those details in the provider’s or hardware encoder’s setup as directed. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it publicly, and replace it if it is exposed. YouTube’s connection instructions are in its encoder guide.

4. Start the broadcast and verify playback
Begin the stream using the provider or device controls, then check the YouTube live page from another device or browser. Confirm that video and audio play as expected, the correct lesson is on screen, and the stream continues after you shut down your computer. The cloud service or standalone encoder—not YouTube’s file storage alone—is responsible for generating and sending the live feed.
Use the computer-based method only if the computer can stay on
With OBS or another software encoder, the computer is the playback source and transmitter. It must remain powered, connected to the internet, and running the encoder for the duration of the stream. Sleep settings, restarts, network interruptions, or closing the software can stop the broadcast. This approach can work for a monitored or shorter session, but it does not meet the requirement that the computer be off during an ongoing stream.

Limits to understand before running lessons around the clock
YouTube rules still apply
Every livestream must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Using a cloud provider or encoder does not give you rights to course videos, music, images, or other materials included in a lesson. Check permissions for the full recording and any inserted content before broadcasting. YouTube’s requirements are described in Get started with live streaming.
One continuous stream may not become one complete archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will be saved as one complete replay. If a complete archive matters, confirm the archive behavior for your specific setup and preserve the original recordings independently. The duration guidance appears in YouTube’s encoder documentation.

Provider limits are not YouTube-wide limits
For example, OneStream’s help page says its 24/7 feature is YouTube-only, requires an Enterprise plan, and allows a maximum stream duration of 30 days. Those are OneStream-specific terms, not a general YouTube rule. Check the provider’s current plan and limits before building a schedule around them: OneStream’s 24/7 streaming instructions.

- Computer must be off: choose a cloud-hosted service or a standalone encoder that can play prerecorded media without a computer.
- You can leave a computer on and monitor it: computer software encoding is an option, but it depends on that computer and its connection staying available.
- You need one uninterrupted event or a recurring schedule: check how the chosen service handles looping, scheduling, restarts, and its own maximum duration.
- A complete replay matters: do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will produce one full archive; verify the setup and retain source files.
Available service descriptions explain workflows, but they do not establish comparative reliability or guarantee audience growth, watch time, or revenue. Confirm current features and terms directly with the provider.
