Yes. Upload your PowerPoint file to Google Drive, open it with Google Slides, then choose the conversion option to create a native Google Slides copy. The original PowerPoint remains a separate file. Simply opening and editing the Office file is different: those changes can stay in the original PowerPoint format.
Convert a PowerPoint file to Google Slides on a computer
- Go to Google Drive and select New > File upload.
- Choose your PowerPoint presentation and wait for the upload to finish.
- Find the uploaded file in Drive, right-click it, and select Open with > Google Slides.
- In the Slides workflow, choose the option to convert the Office file to Google Slides. Google creates a copy in Slides format, leaving the uploaded PowerPoint as a separate file. See Google’s presentation creation instructions.
You can also double-click a PowerPoint file in Drive and choose to open it with Google Slides. That route may let you edit the Office file without converting it; Google says those changes are saved to the original Microsoft Office file. Read Google’s guide to switching from PowerPoint to Slides.

Choose whether to keep PowerPoint format or make a Slides copy

Google documents both behaviors in its Slides help and PowerPoint-to-Slides switching guide. The important distinction is the format of the file you intend to keep editing: opening an Office file is not the same as converting it.

Check the converted presentation before sharing
Review the converted slides before you present or share them. Google’s cited help pages explain how to open and convert Office files, but do not provide a complete feature-by-feature compatibility list for PowerPoint conversion. Check the slide layouts and content that matter in your deck rather than assuming every element will look or behave exactly as it did in PowerPoint.

What you can do on Android
Google says the Slides Android app can import and edit PPT, PPTX, and ODP files, and export to PPTX, PDF, TXT, and ODP. That supports opening and editing PowerPoint presentations on Android; it does not establish that every mobile app version offers the same native-conversion controls as the computer workflow.
