Yes. You can control the cloud computer with remote desktop software, or control supported OBS actions through OBS Studio’s WebSocket interface. YouTube Studio handles a different part of the job: its Live Control Room shows the incoming stream and provides YouTube-side controls. Choose the method that matches what you need to change.
First, know which part you want to control
A cloud livestream involves two separate systems: the encoder running on the cloud computer sends the video and audio to YouTube, while YouTube’s Live Control Room manages YouTube-side settings and the stream’s preview and go-live workflow. Their controls complement each other; neither one replaces the other.
- YouTube-side controls: Use Live Control Room for the YouTube workflow, including checking the incoming preview. YouTube’s setup steps say to wait for the preview and then click Go live.
- Encoder-side controls: Use the cloud computer’s desktop or OBS’s remote-control interface for supported encoder actions, such as changing scenes or sources.
Opening YouTube Studio does not give you control of OBS or the cloud computer’s desktop. Conversely, controlling OBS does not replace checking YouTube’s preview and stream status.
Choose a control method
Remote desktop: control the whole cloud computer
Use remote desktop software when you need to work with the cloud computer as if you were sitting in front of it—for example, to use OBS’s interface or access other desktop applications. The remote-access provider and cloud host must support the operating systems and access configuration you use.

As one documented example, AnyDesk’s connection instructions use the remote device’s ID or alias. Depending on how access is configured, you either enter its unattended-access password or wait for a remote user to accept the connection. After connecting, you can control the remote desktop. Check the provider’s current instructions for your particular cloud host and operating system.
OBS WebSocket: control supported OBS actions
If you only need to control OBS actions and have a compatible client, OBS Studio 28 and later includes WebSocket control by default. OBS documents using external tools and scripts to control scenes and sources. This is not the same as remotely operating the whole desktop: use remote desktop if you need access beyond the supported OBS controls.

YouTube Live Control Room: manage the YouTube side
Open Live Control Room using an account with the appropriate access to the channel. Check the incoming preview and use the available YouTube controls for the stream workflow. The encoder still sends the feed from the cloud computer. YouTube says a channel owner or manager is required to reset a stream key.
Set up remote access safely
- Confirm what needs control. Choose Live Control Room for YouTube-side actions, OBS WebSocket for supported OBS actions, or remote desktop for full cloud-desktop access.
- Configure the access method on the cloud computer. For remote desktop, follow the provider’s current instructions for that host and operating system. For OBS WebSocket, configure its access settings in OBS and connect using a compatible external client.
- Require authentication. Protect remote-desktop access with a password or the provider’s access controls. OBS explicitly recommends enabling WebSocket authentication and setting a password; do not expose an unauthenticated endpoint.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes stream keys as password-like credentials that tell the encoder where to send the feed. Do not share or expose one. If it is compromised, use YouTube’s reset process and update the encoder with the replacement key.
- Test the complete viewing path. Connect from the other computer, confirm you can perform the intended action, then check the incoming preview and stream status in Live Control Room.
Monitor the stream after making changes
Remote commands alone do not show whether viewers are receiving usable audio and video. YouTube’s operational guidance advises checking the Live Control Room preview before going live and monitoring audio and video quality during the stream. Keep a way to observe the stream while you control it, and verify the result after changing a scene, source, or YouTube-side setting.

Common problems and fixes
- You can open Studio, but cannot change an OBS scene. Studio controls the YouTube side, not the cloud desktop or OBS. Connect to the cloud computer with remote desktop, or use a compatible client for OBS WebSocket actions.
- You can control OBS, but cannot see whether YouTube received the stream. OBS control does not replace YouTube’s preview and stream status. Check Live Control Room for the incoming preview and YouTube-side workflow.
- The remote desktop connection is rejected or asks for acceptance. Check the remote device ID or alias and the host’s access configuration. Depending on the provider’s setup, unattended access may require its password, or a remote user may have to accept the session.
- An OBS WebSocket client cannot connect. Confirm that the cloud instance is running OBS Studio 28 or later, that the client is compatible, and that the OBS WebSocket access settings and authentication match. Do not solve a connection problem by leaving the interface unauthenticated.
- The stream key may have been exposed. Treat it as compromised: reset it through YouTube using an account with channel-owner or manager access, then update the encoder with the new key.
- The stream is connected, but the picture or sound is wrong. Check the outgoing result in Live Control Room’s preview and monitor audio and video quality rather than assuming that a successful remote-control command means the stream is healthy.
