Google’s official Search documentation reviewed for this article does not describe an “Add to calendar” feature in AI Overviews. That does not rule out a limited or newer experiment, but it means you should not expect a calendar button in Search based on the published documentation. Google does offer separate calendar workflows through Gemini in Gmail, Gemini Apps, Google Calendar and Google Assistant.
Does Google AI Overviews have an Add to calendar button?
Google’s August 15, 2024 announcement about AI Overviews explains how the Search feature connects people with information and websites; it does not document creating a Calendar event from an Overview. The announcement describes AI Overviews as a way to help people access information and perspectives from different sources, not as a calendar tool. Read Google’s AI Overviews announcement.

So, if you see an event mentioned in an AI Overview, treat it as information to verify and use one of Google’s calendar workflows separately. Google’s published Search material reviewed here does not establish an “Add to calendar” button or a direct connection between AI Overviews and Google Calendar.

Add an event from Gmail with Gemini
Gemini in Gmail can identify calendar-related content in an email and show an “Add to calendar” button. Google’s March 10, 2025 announcement described the feature as English-only and web-only at launch. It also said the button would not appear for emails where events had already been extracted, with restaurants and flights given as examples, and that events created this way would not include other guests. These are Gemini-in-Gmail capabilities, not AI Overviews features. Google Calendar Help also lists creating an event from a Gmail message as available to all Gmail users, so a basic Gmail-to-Calendar action does not necessarily require a Gemini plan. Gemini-assisted meeting suggestions have separate availability. Google Calendar Help: schedule events in Gmail.

Create an event with Gemini Apps
Gemini Apps can create and manage events in connected calendar apps. For Google Calendar, Google’s instructions say to connect Google Workspace and use the same account. Keep Activity must be on to connect calendar apps. The exact actions Gemini can perform are limited: Google says it cannot add or invite people, and some event details cannot be edited in certain ways. Check the event in Calendar after Gemini creates or changes it. Google Help: create and manage calendar events with Gemini Apps.
Google also warns that Gemini Apps can hallucinate responses or provide outdated information. Confirm the date, time, time zone, location and other details before relying on an event it creates.
