Its reviewed personal-account guidance does not list Gmail deletion as a supported action either. Google’s documentation does not establish that every supported action requires a separate approval prompt.
What Gemini can do in Gmail
Google describes two related kinds of assistance: Gemini features built into Gmail and Gemini Connected Apps. Gmail’s feature information includes summarizing email, drafting with Help me write, and selecting context-aware Suggested Replies. These prepare or explain content; they do not establish that Gemini can send a message from Gmail. See Google’s Gmail feature overview.

- Summarize: Gemini can help explain the contents of an email or conversation.
- Draft: Help me write can create or refine text for an email. A draft remains unsent unless you send it in Gmail.
- Suggest a reply: Suggested Replies offer text you can select and review. A suggestion is not a delivered reply.
- Send: The reviewed Gmail feature descriptions do not list sending a message as a Gemini capability. Use Gmail’s send control yourself.
Can Gemini delete Gmail messages?
Work or school accounts
For Gmail accessed through Gemini Connected Apps with a work or school Google Account, Google’s documentation is explicit: “Gemini Apps cannot: Create an email draft or delete emails in Gmail.” The statement applies to Connected Apps for those accounts; it should not be read as a description of every feature built into Gmail. Google also says Gemini can export a response to Google Workspace for use as a draft. See Google’s work or school Connected Apps guidance.

Google’s reviewed personal-account Connected Apps instructions do not list deleting Gmail messages as a supported action. That is not the same as a universal guarantee about every future feature or integration; check the current capabilities available in your own Gemini account. Does Gemini ask before sending or deleting?
Google’s pages describe permission to connect an app and controls for turning Connected Apps on or off. They do not say that users receive a separate confirmation prompt before every supported action. App-connection permission and approval of an individual action are different controls, so the documentation does not support a blanket promise either that Gemini always asks before an action or that it acts silently.
Why features and controls differ by account
What appears in Gemini or Gmail depends on account type and, for work or school accounts, the Workspace edition and administrator settings. Google also notes that feature availability can vary by plan, device, language and location. Its Gmail availability information distinguishes eligible Google AI or Workspace plans from some features for unpaid personal Gmail accounts that are currently limited to the US.

Connected Apps have additional requirements. Personal-account users need to be signed in, and Google says app availability can differ by device, country and Gemini app. Keep Activity settings also affect access: personal Connected Apps are unavailable on Gemini web and iOS when Keep Activity is off, while Android retains a limited group of apps. For work or school accounts, Connected Apps require an eligible Workspace edition and Keep Activity, and an administrator can enable or disable access. Check the connection and privacy settings
In Gemini, review Connected Apps in settings to see whether Gmail is connected; Google’s instructions let users connect or disconnect apps, and Gemini may ask to connect an app when a task needs one. For work or school accounts, the administrator may control whether the app is available. Disconnecting an app does not erase Gemini Apps Activity, and other apps handle data Gemini has already shared with them under their own policies. Google explains these distinctions in the Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, whose notice is marked updated June 29, 2026.
