Can Firefox Screenshots Capture Pages With Lazy-Loaded Images?

Firefox can capture a full page without loading every lazy image. Scroll through the page, wait for images to appear, and then capture.

Yes—but a full-page capture does not guarantee that every lazy-loaded image will appear. Firefox’s “Save full page” option captures the document, while a page may not have requested images that have not approached the viewport. Scroll through the page first, wait for its images to load, then capture.

Why a full-page screenshot can still miss images

Mozilla Support documents Firefox screenshot choices including “Save full page” and “Save visible.” The former captures the page rather than only the current viewport; the documentation does not say it scrolls through the page to trigger each site’s lazy-loading behavior. Many pages defer image requests until an image nears the viewport. A screenshot may cover the document’s full height while an image that the page never loaded remains blank. A historical Mozilla Bugzilla discussion of loading="lazy" describes how viewport intersection and scroll ports can affect loading, and why painting a screenshot is not necessarily the same as scrolling the page. That discussion explains a possible mechanism; it is not a guarantee about every current Firefox version or website. Mozilla Bugzilla discussion.

How to capture lazy-loaded images in Firefox

  1. Open the page and scroll steadily from the top to the bottom. Pause where needed so images approaching the viewport have time to appear.
  2. Check the page visually, especially sections with images, and wait for the images to load.
  3. Return to the desired starting position if useful, open Firefox Screenshots, and choose Save full page. Choose Save visible only if you want the current viewport.
  4. Open the saved image and check the regions that matter. If images are still missing, try the cases below rather than assuming that full-page capture triggered them.

Scrolling first is a practical workaround for ordinary viewport-based lazy loading, not a promise for infinite-scroll pages, content that unloads after leaving the viewport, or content inside a separate scrolling area.

What to try when scrolling first does not work

Content in an iframe or independently scrolling panel

A page-level capture may not include content that lives inside an iframe or a nested scroll container, or may not cause that content to load. Scroll within the panel itself and inspect the result. Historical Mozilla Bugzilla discussion notes that inner frames, scroll containers, and page-height behavior can create separate full-page capture issues; it does not establish a universal current limitation. Mozilla Bugzilla report.

Very long or infinite-scroll pages

For infinite scroll, reaching the bottom may add more content rather than reveal a fixed final document. Load the portions you need and verify what the capture includes. Very long pages can also encounter capture limits, but the historical bug report is not evidence of a specific current limit.
