Can Developers Access Cerebras Systems? How to Get Started

Cerebras developers can start with hosted inference through Inference Cloud: create an account, get an API key, and choose a limited trial or paid plan.

Yes. Developers can use Cerebras-hosted inference through Cerebras Inference Cloud without buying or operating Cerebras hardware. The usual starting point is to create an account, get an API key, and choose the trial or a paid self-service plan. Cerebras also lists access through partner platforms, while its documentation separates inference from model training and lower-level SDK development.

How to get a Cerebras API key and make your first connection

  1. Open Cerebras Inference Cloud and choose the official “Get API Key” or “Get a free trial” entry point.

  2. Check the live pricing page before adding a payment method. Cerebras currently says a valid payment method activates a one-time $5 promotional credit. It expires 30 days after activation. Cerebras says you are not automatically charged or enrolled in paid use; API and Playground access pause when the credit expires or runs out unless you separately purchase PayGo credits.

  3. Create an API key, then follow the Inference SDK documentation to connect an application. Cerebras describes its API as OpenAI-compatible and says adapting an application takes two code changes. That is the vendor’s setup description, not a guarantee that every OpenAI-based application will work unchanged; check compatibility with the models and features your app uses.

  4. Select a usage tier that fits your workload. The Developer tier is described for development, evaluation, and experimentation, not production. The product page positions Enterprise for production use and lists production-ready capacity, higher rate limits, latency options, and dedicated support.

Is Cerebras free to use?

The current offer is a limited trial, not unlimited or recurring free inference. Cerebras’ pricing page describes a one-time $5 promotional credit after account creation and addition of a valid payment method; it expires 30 days after activation. Access pauses when the credit expires or is exhausted unless you separately buy PayGo credits.

For paid self-service Developer usage, Cerebras’ current inference page says users can add funds starting at $10 and pay per token. The page says Developer has higher rate limits than the free tier. Model-specific rates and terms can change, so check the live pricing page rather than relying on older announcements.

Enterprise is a contact-sales route for production-scale capacity. Cerebras lists dedicated queue priority, custom weights, uptime guarantees, and dedicated support, subject to agreement and availability; the published pages do not establish a universal price or commitment for every customer.

Direct Cerebras access or a partner API?

Direct Inference Cloud signup is the straightforward route if you want a Cerebras account and API key. Cerebras also lists AWS Marketplace, OpenRouter, Hugging Face, and Vercel as partner API routes. Their model catalogs, billing arrangements, rate limits, and terms may differ, so verify those details with the provider you choose.

Route What to check
Direct Cerebras Inference Cloud Current model availability, tier limits, billing, and whether the service fits your development or production needs.
AWS Marketplace, OpenRouter, Hugging Face, or Vercel Whether Cerebras models are currently available through that provider, how usage is billed, and which rate limits, support, and terms apply.

Choose the right Cerebras documentation path

The Cerebras developer portal covers several different kinds of work. Use the documentation that matches what you are building:

What to know before using Cerebras in production

A trial or Developer account is useful for prototyping and evaluation, but Cerebras explicitly says Developer is not intended for production. For a production decision, assess the Enterprise offering against your actual throughput, latency, model customization, support, and service-commitment requirements, and confirm the terms directly with Cerebras.

Cerebras announced pay-per-token access on October 13, 2025, with instructions to obtain a key and deposit $10. That announcement is historical context; current funding and plan terms should be taken from the live product and pricing pages.
