Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYes—some Cricket phones can be used with another carrier, but the phone must first be unlocked and the destination carrier must confirm that the exact model is compatible. An unlock removes Cricket’s carrier restriction; it does not guarantee network access, 5G, or every feature.
Two checks determine whether your Cricket phone will work elsewhere
Think of switching as two separate gates. First, Cricket must be willing to unlock the phone. Second, the carrier you want to join must accept and support that specific device. Passing one check does not pass the other.

When will Cricket unlock a phone?
Cricket’s device unlock policy, revised July 1, 2026, says a device must have been active for at least 365 days of paid service on that device. It must also have been designed for use on and locked to Cricket’s network, must not have been reported lost or stolen, and must not be associated with a fraudulent account. Cricket may deny requests it believes could enable abuse, fraud, or unlawful conduct, and says it may change the policy without advance notice. Check the current policy before making plans.

Cricket describes an exception for active deployed military personnel who cannot meet the 365-day paid-service requirement. It applies to one device and still requires the other eligibility conditions and acceptable deployment verification. Cricket directs customers seeking this exception to contact Support by phone or chat, or visit a Cricket store.

Find out whether the phone is locked

How to check a Cricket phone before switching
- Identify the exact phone. Find its model and IMEI. The carrier you want to join may use the IMEI to check whether it will accept the device. Cricket explains the role of the IMEI in its BYOD guidance.
- Confirm its lock status. If it is locked to Cricket, check its paid-service history and the other requirements in Cricket’s unlock policy. Contact Cricket if you need a status or eligibility confirmation.
- Request an unlock if eligible. Follow Cricket’s current instructions or contact its support channels. Do not assume the phone will unlock immediately or that an exception applies beyond the one described in the policy.
- Check the IMEI with the destination carrier. Use that carrier’s device checker and ask whether the exact model supports the services you need. Cricket’s own checker is for bringing a device to Cricket; it cannot determine whether another carrier will accept a phone.
- Confirm activation requirements. Ask the destination carrier whether the phone can be activated with a physical SIM or eSIM and what steps it requires. SIM and eSIM availability depends on the phone and the carrier; Cricket’s activation options for its own service do not establish another carrier’s process.
What compatibility does—and does not—guarantee
Carriers use different cellular technologies and frequency bands, so a phone that is unlocked may still be incompatible. Even when a carrier accepts the model, support for 5G or other device-specific features can vary.

Cricket cautions that its compatibility checker may not cover every device, that it cannot guarantee performance for phones it did not sell, and that not all 5G phones from other carriers will receive 5G service on Cricket. Those are Cricket-specific cautions; they do not establish another carrier’s compatibility rules. For a switch away from Cricket, rely on the intended carrier’s checker and confirmation for the exact model. Cricket’s BYOD information

If the phone cannot be used on your preferred carrier
If Cricket will not unlock the phone, or the destination carrier does not support the exact model, ask that carrier what devices it accepts before choosing another handset. A SIM card or accessory will not remove a carrier lock. Verify any replacement phone by its exact model with the intended carrier before buying it.
