Yes—if you use a computer encoder. YouTube’s computer-streaming guidance does not state a subscriber minimum; its separate 50-subscriber requirement applies to livestreaming from the YouTube mobile app. A verified channel must have live streaming enabled, meet YouTube’s age requirement, and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
Which YouTube Live method works without subscribers?
| Method | Subscriber requirement in YouTube guidance | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube mobile app | At least 50 subscribers | Starts a livestream directly from a phone or tablet. |
| Computer webcam or encoder | No subscriber minimum stated in the cited computer and general guidance | Sends a webcam feed or an encoder’s prepared video feed to YouTube Live Control Room. |
For a channel with zero subscribers, use the computer route rather than the mobile app. YouTube’s Help pages describe encoder streams and support software or standalone hardware encoders. They do not expressly address every case of looping or rebroadcasting a prerecorded file, so using an encoder for that purpose is an application of its general encoder workflow—not a guarantee that every replay format or schedule is separately approved. See YouTube’s general livestreaming requirements, computer livestreaming guidance, mobile livestreaming requirements, and encoder setup guidance.

Check eligibility before setting up the stream
- Verify the channel. YouTube requires verification before livestreaming.
- Enable live streaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the moment you want to broadcast.
- Check the channel’s standing. YouTube’s general live guidance requires no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days.
- Meet the age requirement. YouTube says livestreamers must be at least 16 years old.
- Choose the right device route. The 50-subscriber rule belongs to mobile-app livestreaming; it is not stated as a requirement for computer streaming.
These are YouTube platform requirements, not India-specific exceptions. The mobile Help page’s country availability information does not create a different subscriber rule for computer streams. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page and age guidance for current account requirements.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Prepare the video and rights. Confirm that you have permission for the footage, music, and every other element you plan to broadcast. An encoder carries the prepared feed; it does not grant rights to the material.
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a stream. In Live Control Room, set up the broadcast and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Configure an encoder. Select encoder software or hardware that can send your prepared video feed. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming. Use its instructions for the encoder you choose; YouTube does not specify one universal setup for every application.
- Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your stream.
- Start the encoder feed and check the preview. Before going live, confirm that the correct picture and audio appear in Live Control Room and that the stream watch page is available. YouTube recommends setting up encoders ahead of time and checking preview and stream quality.
- Go live and monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on the video, sound, and Live Control Room status. A successful encoder connection does not establish that the content itself complies with YouTube’s policies or rights requirements.
For current instructions on creating an encoder stream and connecting it, see YouTube’s encoder setup guide and tips for live streaming.

Copyright and policy rules still apply to prerecorded footage
Calling a video “prerecorded” does not exempt it from YouTube’s rules. YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to have the rights needed to use the live content, including applicable music rights, and streams are scanned for third-party material. If YouTube detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn the creator, or temporarily interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If the stream is archived, a Content ID claim may also be made after it ends.
A licence may not prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Resolve that with the rights owner before broadcasting; do not assume that a clip or song is safe simply because it is available online or because the stream is live. Read YouTube’s Terms of Service and copyright guidance for live streams.
