Yes. An Android phone can work as a Bluetooth keyboard if an app makes it act as a Bluetooth HID (Human Interface Device) keyboard and the Mac, tablet, or TV accepts Bluetooth keyboard input. The phone sends keystrokes; the other device receives them. Compatibility depends on the phone, Android version, app, and receiving device, so it is not guaranteed for every combination.
How using your phone as a Bluetooth keyboard works
A suitable app exposes the phone as a Bluetooth keyboard peripheral. You pair it with the device you want to control, which acts as the host. This is the reverse of pairing a physical Bluetooth keyboard with an Android phone or tablet.

Once connected, the app sends keyboard input over Bluetooth. The app developers describe this as working without helper software on the receiving computer or TV, but layouts, modifier keys, shortcuts, and special characters may behave differently across operating systems.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How to pair an Android phone with a Mac, tablet, or TV
- Choose an Android HID app that supports keyboard mode, and check its current Android requirements for your phone.
- Turn on Bluetooth on both devices and grant the app the Bluetooth permissions it requests.
- Follow the app’s pairing instructions. Some apps require the phone to become discoverable and the host to start pairing; others have you scan for the host in the app.
- When the phone or app appears in the host’s Bluetooth settings, select it and accept any pairing prompt shown on either device.
- Open a text field or try the intended navigation keys to confirm input works. Check modifier keys and character layout before relying on shortcuts.
The exact pairing flow varies by app. For example, relay-hid says to enable discoverability in the app and pair from the host. Linkpad describes scanning for the host in the app and accepting the request on the host.

Android HID apps to consider
These are project and publisher descriptions, not independent compatibility tests. Check the latest app listing or project instructions before installing, especially if you need a particular phone or host to work.
| App | What its publisher or project documents | Requirements and caveats stated in the source |
|---|---|---|
| relay-hid | Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad use for Mac, iPad, Windows, Linux, or TV. | The project describes registering the HID function, enabling discoverability, and pairing from the host. Its compatibility claims are not independently verified. Project page |
| Linkpad | Keyboard, trackpad, air mouse, and media remote; intended hosts include macOS, iPadOS, Android TV, and many smart TVs. | The host must support Bluetooth input. The README describes an in-app scan and host-side pairing acceptance. Project README |
| AirMouse | Keyboard and remote features for Mac, Android TV, and Bluetooth-equipped TVs or streaming boxes. | The publisher says Android 10 or newer is required. It describes a free tier with ads and fewer features plus optional paid features; verify current store details and in-app offers. Google Play listing |
| Bluke | Open-source keyboard, trackpad, and game controller using Bluetooth HID. | F-Droid lists Android 7.0 or newer and version 1.0.7, added June 24, 2026. The listing does not establish compatibility with every Mac or TV model. F-Droid listing |
What to check for each kind of host
Mac
The relay-hid, Linkpad, and AirMouse publishers describe Mac or macOS support. Pair from the Mac’s Bluetooth settings, then check the keyboard layout and modifier-key behavior you need. App-level support claims do not guarantee that every Android phone and Mac combination will work.

Tablet
The tablet must accept external Bluetooth keyboard input. Google’s instructions for pairing a physical keyboard with an Android tablet are under Settings → Connected devices → Pair new device: put the keyboard in pairing mode, select it from the list, and follow any prompt. Google also documents physical keyboard layouts, on-screen keyboard options, shortcuts, and modifier settings; some steps apply only to Android 14 and newer. These instructions describe a tablet receiving keyboard input, not whether a particular Android phone can act as the keyboard. Google Android Help: Connect a keyboard to your Android device

Smart TV
The Linkpad and AirMouse publishers describe Android TV support, and Linkpad also names many smart TVs. AirMouse says the target TV or streaming device needs Bluetooth. Confirm that your specific model accepts Bluetooth keyboards; support for Bluetooth accessories does not necessarily mean every key or function will work.

If pairing or typing does not work
- Check that Bluetooth is on and that the app has the permissions it requests.
- Make sure the app is actively advertising or scanning, as required by its pairing flow.
- Start pairing from the side the app specifies; some flows require the host to find the phone.
- Remove an old pairing from both devices, then try pairing again.
- Check whether the receiving computer, tablet, or TV supports Bluetooth keyboard input.
- If pairing succeeds but keys behave unexpectedly, check the keyboard layout and test the required modifiers or shortcuts individually.
These are practical checks based on the apps’ documented pairing flows; they are not a guaranteed fix for every device.
