Say, “Alexa, play .” For example: “Alexa, play my road trip playlist on Amazon Music.” If Alexa uses another music service, choose Amazon Music as the default in the Alexa app.
Ask Alexa to play the playlist
Use the playlist’s name in a voice request: “Alexa, play .” Amazon lists “Play ” as a supported music command. Naming Amazon Music and saying “playlist” can help when a title could refer to other kinds of content: “Alexa, play my playlist on Amazon Music.” That phrasing is a useful way to clarify the request, not a guarantee that every device or playlist will resolve identically.

Link Amazon Music and choose the right default
Confirm the music service is linked
In the Alexa app, go to More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts > Link New Service, select a supported service, and follow the prompts. Amazon Music access is associated with the Amazon account to which the Alexa device is registered.
Set Amazon Music as the default
If Alexa plays the playlist from a different provider, open More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts and check Your Default Services. You can also name Amazon Music in your spoken request instead of relying on the default. Amazon says separate default music and podcast services can be set for Alexa Profiles; each profile needs an Alexa voice ID, and not every provider supports linking directly to a profile. Check whether the account can play the playlist
The registered Amazon account, country, and subscription affect which music and playlist features are available. Amazon says eligible Prime members have Prime Music access, while Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can access customizable playlists. Check the options shown for your account and country in the Alexa app; availability and features are not identical everywhere.
Fix a playlist that is misunderstood or will not play
If Alexa plays the wrong content or service
- Say the service name and include the word “playlist” in the request.
- Check which provider is selected under Your Default Services, especially if the active Alexa Profile differs from the one you usually use.
- Confirm that the playlist is available to the Amazon account registered to the device.
If playback buffers or fails
First confirm the account and default service, then check the Wi-Fi connection. Amazon notes that Wi-Fi problems can cause media to buffer or not play. Its troubleshooting suggestions include reducing network congestion, moving the device away from walls and sources of interference, placing it above floor level, using the router’s 5 GHz channel where applicable, and restarting the Alexa device and network hardware. What Alexa playlist requests can and cannot do
The basic play-by-name command is separate from newer conversational playlist-management features. Amazon says Alexa+ can create and manage playlists conversationally; that does not change the basic command for playing an existing playlist. Amazon Music playlists contain songs, not stations, audiobooks, or podcasts.
