AI can speed up travel research and help shape an itinerary, but it did not replace a travel agent in a reported Disneyland Paris family-trip test. The writer still had to verify prices and make the booking manually, and the chatbots could not step in when plans changed.
What happened when AI planned a Disneyland Paris family trip?
Stuff Associate Editor Spencer Hart gave ChatGPT and Gemini the same brief: two adults and a nearly four-year-old, an early-November trip, a moderate budget and an on-site hotel. The exercise was for Disneyland Paris, and the chatbot suggestions were planning output—not live booking confirmations. Hart’s account of the test describes how each assistant handled the request.

ChatGPT: structured planning with caveats
ChatGPT asked follow-up questions about the family’s constraints, built a day-by-day plan and compared hotels. It gave price ranges while warning that they were estimates rather than live quotes, pointed to sources and corrected a date detail.
Gemini: more tailored suggestions, less clarity
Gemini offered more personalized recommendations and a Google Maps route card. Hart found its answers less clearly sourced and less explicit about price changes. The feature also describes personal details surfacing unexpectedly, a reminder that personalization can raise privacy questions as well as improve recommendations.
#1 Best Overall
Hart’s conclusion was specific to those prompts and assistants: “Neither of these fully replaced a human travel agent.” The writer could not give either chatbot credit-card details to book the holiday, so the booking remained a manual task. This was an individual comparison, not a controlled benchmark or an audit of every AI travel tool.
Where AI helps—and where the handoff matters
AI is useful as a research and planning assistant: it can organize options, suggest an itinerary and make it easier to compare hotels or activities. But a plausible answer is not proof that a room is available, a fare is current or a package can be booked at the quoted price. Check live availability, prices and time-sensitive rules with the relevant booking channel before paying.

Booking is only part of the job. Hart points to the value of help when a train is cancelled or a hotel is overbooked; neither assistant in the test could provide that kind of real-time intervention. When deciding whether to use an agent, consider who will actually act if something goes wrong, and what support the booking channel provides for changes or disruption.
How to judge an AI travel plan before relying on it
- Planning quality: Does it ask about dates, budget, party size, accessibility or other constraints, and priorities before proposing an itinerary?
- Evidence quality: Does it link to authoritative sources, separate estimates from live quotes and correct errors transparently?
- Personalization and privacy: Are tailored suggestions useful, and are you comfortable with the information being used to generate them?
- Booking control: Can you confirm availability and complete payment through the appropriate booking channel?
- Disruption support: Is there a person or service you can contact to help change a booking or respond to a cancellation?
For a consequential decision, use the assistant to prepare and compare, then verify the details directly and decide in advance who is responsible for support after booking.

What traveler surveys say about AI and human help
Several 2026 company-released surveys suggest that travelers are using AI while still valuing human support. Their figures should be read separately: each survey used a different population, geography and question, and the results are self-reported.
| Finding | Survey details |
|---|---|
| 40% were concerned about poor customer service if something went wrong after an AI purchase. | Expedia Group, 2026. YouGov surveyed more than 5,700 adults in the US, UK and India from 10–25 March 2026. Expedia Group release |
| 77% of surveyed US adults who use AI tools said they were likely to still rely on a human for final travel decisions when using AI to plan; 82% said human support when booking a vacation was extremely or very important. | ALG Vacations, 2026. Atomik Research conducted an online survey of 1,000 US adult AI users from 24–28 April 2026; the release reports a margin of error of ±3 percentage points at 95% confidence. ALG Vacations release |
| 58% of Americans surveyed said they used AI tools to plan their summer vacations, compared with 14% who said they relied on human travel agents. Separately, 25% cited inaccurate or outdated information as an AI-planning frustration, and 18% said they had encountered AI hallucinations. | Qlik, 2026. Censuswide surveyed 2,001 US adults planning a summer trip from 5–9 June 2026. Qlik release |
These results do not establish that AI or agents produce better trips. They do show why planning convenience and confidence in what happens after a booking are separate questions. Expedia Group Chief AI & Data Officer Xavi Amatriain summarized the trust concern this way: “Travelers don’t have a technology problem with AI. They have a trust problem.”

Disneyland help depends on which resort you mean
Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Resort in California have different booking procedures. The official help answer cited here is specifically about Disneyland Resort in California: it says the resort does not offer travel-agent services, while Cast Members can help with tickets and hotel reservations and a separate phone line handles vacation packages. It also says dining reservations typically open 60 days ahead, with availability not guaranteed. Those details should not be applied to Disneyland Paris. See the planDisney answer dated 13 March 2026 for the California-specific guidance.
