Possibly. A copyright strike does not, by itself, prove that a channel is barred from livestreaming. What matters is whether YouTube has placed a livestream restriction on the channel. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before trying to go live.
What determines whether you can livestream?
YouTube’s general livestream eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. A copyright strike and a livestream restriction are related, but they are not interchangeable: a strike alone does not establish the channel’s present livestream access.

YouTube says an active or archived livestream copyright strike may disable livestream access. Its copyright-strike guidance specifies a seven-day livestream restriction when an active livestream is removed for copyright; another copyright strike makes that restriction 14 days. These are policy periods, not a way to determine the status of a particular channel. YouTube’s current policy pages were consulted on October 3, 2026; the channel owner must check Studio for the account-specific answer.

Check your channel’s status in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio for the channel that you want to stream from.
- Review the channel’s notices and account status for a copyright strike, a livestream restriction, or another account restriction. Read the notice itself; do not infer a livestream ban just from the word “copyright.”
- Confirm livestream eligibility. If Studio shows a restriction, follow the information and timing shown for that channel. If no restriction is shown, the channel still needs to meet YouTube’s general livestream requirements, including verification.
The public policy does not reveal an individual channel’s current restriction state. If the notice or status is unclear, use the options YouTube provides in Studio rather than assuming that a strike has—or has not—disabled livestreaming.

Does a Content ID claim count as a strike?
Usually, no. YouTube distinguishes a Content ID claim from a copyright strike: a strike follows a copyright removal request, while a Content ID claim typically does not result in a strike. Check the actual notice to see which one applies. Disputing a claim without a valid reason can lead the copyright owner to submit a removal request, which may result in a strike.
How long is a livestream restriction for copyright?
Under YouTube’s copyright-strike guidance, if an active livestream is removed for copyright, livestream access is restricted for seven days. Another copyright strike makes the restriction 14 days. Check Studio for the restriction that applies to your channel; do not treat these periods as proof that a particular channel is currently restricted or as a substitute for its account notice.

Can a copyright strike expire or be resolved?
YouTube lists three routes for addressing a copyright strike: complete Copyright School and wait for the strike to expire, obtain a retraction, or submit a valid counter notification. The 90-day expiration route applies when Copyright School is completed and the channel has fewer than three copyright strikes. A counter notification is appropriate only if you have a valid basis for submitting one; use YouTube’s formal process and read its instructions carefully.

YouTube says three active copyright strikes can make a channel and associated channels subject to termination. Treat a strike notice as an account issue to resolve through the official process, not merely as a temporary livestream inconvenience.

What if YouTube interrupts a livestream?
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party material, including other live broadcasts. Detected third-party content can lead to an interruption or termination. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption: the content owner may also need to add the channel to the Content ID allowlist. If a stream stops, review the Studio notice and account status to identify whether YouTube reports a copyright issue or another restriction.

YouTube prohibits using another channel to evade an active livestream restriction. Wait until the restriction is no longer active and confirm access in Studio rather than moving the same stream to a different channel.

Once YouTube allows the channel to stream
If Studio shows that livestreaming is available and the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements, you can use YouTube’s normal livestream setup. A cloud service does not remove a YouTube restriction or change copyright rules. StreamNeo is an option for keeping an eligible YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or make a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded content from the cloud, so your computer does not have to stay on; it does not stream from a camera. See StreamNeo and, if it fits your setup, start the free first day.
