Your channel must qualify for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), pass a channel-wide review, follow originality and rights policies, and enable the live monetization features you want to use. A continuous loop can also create an archive problem: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, which can put the public archive needed for qualifying watch hours at risk.
What determines whether a prerecorded stream earns money?
There are two separate questions: whether the broadcast can run as a livestream, and whether your channel can earn revenue from it. YouTube permits monetization features on eligible live streams, but a livestream label does not exempt its content or channel from YPP eligibility and review. YouTube evaluates the channel as a whole, not just whether a particular broadcast is live. YouTube Partner Program overview and eligibility · YouTube channel monetization policies

For the standard long-form route, the published threshold is 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the previous 12 months. The alternative route is 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Meeting a threshold allows you to apply; it does not mean automatic acceptance. You also need to meet YPP requirements, including living in a supported country or region, having no active Community Guidelines strikes, enabling 2-Step Verification, having access to advanced features, and linking or setting up an AdSense for YouTube account. Check YouTube’s current eligibility page for the full requirements and any changes.
Can a loop be rejected as repetitive or reused content?
Not every prerecorded livestream or loop is disallowed. The risk depends on what is in the stream and the channel around it. YouTube expects monetized work to be original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible. Reused material needs significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Reviewers may consider a channel’s main theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the content responsible for the greatest share of watch time, metadata, and About section.
A stream built from your original footage and given meaningful variation, context, commentary, or educational value has a stronger policy argument than third-party material rebroadcast with little change or a minimally changed template. That is a practical reading of YouTube’s policy, not a promise of approval. YouTube’s guidance puts the principle plainly: “Be your original creation. If you borrow content from someone else, you need to change it significantly to make it your own.” YouTube channel monetization policies

Do 24/7 livestream hours count toward the 4,000-hour threshold?
Only qualified public watch hours count. YouTube excludes livestream hours when the stream is unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD (video on demand). YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast therefore risks leaving you without an archive; do not assume its hours will count toward the threshold. Check that a public VOD was created and confirm eligible-hour reporting in YouTube Studio. YPP eligibility · Archive live streams
This archive issue is distinct from whether an eligible creator can monetize the live broadcast itself. Being able to go live, or seeing ads, does not establish that the stream generated qualified archived watch hours.

Which live monetization features are available?
Eligible YPP creators can turn on ads, enable Super Chat and Super Stickers, and set up channel memberships where available. For a monetized livestream, pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is turned on. Mid-rolls may be automated or controlled manually. YouTube cautions that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve”; its systems decide whether to show ads based on several factors. Monetize your live stream · How to earn money on YouTube
YouTube reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-rolls saw an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not turn them on. That comparison covered 207 countries in January 2024 and is YouTube’s reported average, not an earnings forecast or guarantee for an individual channel. Monetize your live stream

Ads may also appear on content from channels outside YPP. Their appearance does not mean the channel has met eligibility requirements or is entitled to a share of that ad revenue. YPP overview and eligibility
Do you need rights to music and other material in the stream?
Yes. YouTube’s livestream terms say creators represent that they have all necessary rights to exploit the live content on Google services, including relevant music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. A recording being prerecorded, or a copy being in your possession, does not by itself establish the right to broadcast it. The rights required depend on the material and relevant territories. How to reduce monetization and archive risks
- Check the channel’s eligibility and status. Review YPP requirements and policy notices in YouTube Studio before relying on revenue from a continuous stream. Thresholds lead to a channel review, not automatic approval.
- Make the stream demonstrably original and valuable. Use material you created or have permission to use, and add meaningful variation, context, commentary, or educational or entertainment value where appropriate. Avoid relying on a minimally changed, repetitive template.
- Plan for the archive. Because streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured, do not depend on one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast for a public VOD. Check the resulting archive and the eligible watch-hour reporting in Studio.
- Enable only the monetization features available to your channel. Review live-stream settings for ads and fan-funding options, and do not treat ad delivery as guaranteed.
- Document and verify content rights. Confirm that your permissions cover livestream broadcasting and any relevant music rights; owning a recording is not the same as holding broadcast rights.
