Samsung documented a Bixby Routines option to turn on Protect battery for the Galaxy S10; that does not establish that every current Galaxy model offers the same action. Nor does battery protection diagnose battery drain or guarantee longer daily runtime.
What “fixing” a battery problem can—and cannot—mean
Battery protection changes how the phone charges, which may help limit time spent at a high charge level. It is different from a setting that reduces power use while you are using the phone. A charging routine cannot, by itself, identify why a phone loses charge overnight, repair a worn battery, or prove that a particular amount of battery life has been gained.

The headline does not specify the original problem, the Galaxy model, its One UI version, or the routine’s trigger and action. Samsung’s available documentation confirms that battery protection has been exposed to routines on at least one model and software context, not that a particular routine works across the Galaxy range.
Check which battery-protection options your Galaxy has
On supported devices, open Settings > Battery and look for Battery protection. Samsung says the available modes and behavior can differ by model and One UI version. Its U.S. support guidance describes these options:
#1 Best Overall

| Mode | Charging behavior described by Samsung | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Stops charging at 100% and resumes when the charge falls to 95%. | It does not hold the battery at a lower cap. |
| Maximum | Stops charging at the selected charging level. | The available level and controls may depend on the device and software. |
| Adaptive | Stops charging at 80%, then switches to Basic before the expected wake time. | Samsung describes this as learning the user’s routine; irregular sleep patterns may make the estimate less reliable. |
These descriptions come from Samsung’s U.S. Battery protection guidance. Samsung India’s One UI 6.1 guidance says models below One UI 6.1 were limited to an 85% maximum charge, while One UI 6.1 models have Basic, Adaptive, and Maximum. That regional page was updated March 22, 2024; it should not be treated as a universal specification for every market or later release.
Can Modes and Routines turn on battery protection?
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 update notes for model SM-G973U1, in an Android 12 / One UI 4 update released April 15, 2022, say users could create routines to “turn on advanced settings like Protect battery.” This is evidence that the action existed in that model/software context. It does not confirm that current Modes and Routines on your phone expose it, or that they can select a specific protection mode or charging limit.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Samsung’s later Galaxy S22 update notes describe changes to Modes and Routines, including refined triggers based on message or notification keywords. Feature availability evolves, so check your own device rather than assuming an online recipe matches its menus.

- Open Settings > Modes and Routines and create a routine.
- Review the available If conditions for a trigger that fits your need, such as a schedule or another supported device condition.
- Open the routine’s Then actions and search for a battery-protection action. If it is present, confirm exactly what it controls before saving.
- If the action or trigger you need is absent, your device/software combination does not provide that recipe through the interface shown; do not assume that a routine from another model will work.
The community question about enabling a group of alarms, switching to an 80% cap and slow charging, then reaching 100% an hour before an alarm is a useful example of a desired automation—not proof that Galaxy routines support every part of it. The cited Samsung materials do not establish that alarm-group triggers, slow charging, or a timed return to 100% are available together on a particular phone.

Choose the right control for the actual symptom
If you want to limit charging overnight
Use Battery protection if your device offers a mode that fits. Adaptive is the option Samsung describes as adjusting around an expected wake time, but its sleep estimate may be less reliable with irregular schedules. A routine may be an alternative only if the relevant action and trigger appear in your phone’s own Modes and Routines menus.
If the battery drops while the phone is idle
Inspect the phone’s battery-usage and app-activity controls before changing charging protection. Samsung says Power saving mode can affect performance and that background apps may not update or send notifications while it is enabled. It is a runtime trade-off, not a charging cap.

Samsung also describes apps being put into sleeping mode after about three days of inactivity in certain cases involving poor system health, such as battery consumption. Deep-sleeping apps become active only when opened and do not perform background work such as notifications or updates. Samsung’s developer documentation says the current deep-sleep threshold is 16 days and may change. These controls can interrupt timely alerts, so avoid deep-sleeping apps you rely on for notifications. See Samsung’s battery and app guidance and developer documentation on app sleep.
If you are considering Power saving mode
Samsung says Power saving mode can affect app and device performance. It may help reduce ongoing power use, but background updates and notifications can be delayed or unavailable while it is on. Light performance mode is a separate option Samsung describes as prioritizing battery life over processing speed; availability can vary. Samsung also notes that Wi-Fi power saving is unavailable on Galaxy S25 and other devices running One UI 7.0 or later.

What the evidence does not show
The cited Samsung pages document settings and feature availability, but they do not report a measured battery-life gain from the specific routine implied by the headline. There is no basis here to promise a percentage improvement or say that a routine will fix battery drain for every reader. The practical first step is to check what your phone supports, then match the setting to whether the issue is charging behavior, idle drain, or reduced runtime during use.
