What does “PS5 adapter” mean here?
This answer is about controller-conversion adapters: devices used to connect a controller or arcade stick that would not otherwise work with a PS5 game. Audio and video adapters are different products, and their possible latency effects are a separate question.

There is no universal adapter-latency number established by the official Sony and manufacturer materials cited here. Those sources describe compatibility and, in one case, a firmware effort to optimize input lag; they do not provide a controlled, comparative measurement of the delay added by each adapter.
What can make an adapter feel delayed?
Controller input travels through a chain that includes the controller, its connection, the adapter, the console and game, and the display. A perceived delay by itself does not identify which part of that chain is responsible. To attribute a change to an adapter, compare the same controller directly and through the adapter while keeping the game, display, connection mode and settings constant.

Compatibility also matters. Brook says its compatibility list identifies controllers tested with its adapter, and its FAQ cautions that an unlisted controller may be incompatible or simply not yet tested. A setup that is not supported or configured as expected should not be treated as a clean latency comparison. Check the exact controller and adapter version against the manufacturer’s current list: Brook Wingman FGC 2 product and compatibility information and Brook’s compatibility FAQ.
Do firmware updates reduce PS5 adapter input lag?
Firmware can be relevant, but a vendor note does not establish how large an effect an update has in practice. Mayflash’s MAGIC-S PRO 2 firmware history includes the description “Optimise the input lag on PC/PS4/PS5.” The page does not give a measured before-and-after result or a delay figure that applies to every setup. Check the MAGIC-S PRO 2 product page and firmware history for the specific update and instructions.

How to check whether your adapter is causing delay
- Identify the device. Confirm that it is a controller adapter, then note its exact model and version.
- Verify compatibility. Check the maker’s current list for the exact controller or stick, and confirm that the adapter is intended to work with the PS5 game you want to play. A listed device is stronger evidence of compatibility than an unlisted one; absence from a list does not by itself prove incompatibility.
- Check firmware information. Read the manufacturer’s update notes and follow its instructions for your adapter. Do not infer a specific latency improvement from wording that merely says input lag was optimized.
- Make a like-for-like comparison. Where direct connection is supported, compare the controller directly with the same controller routed through the adapter. Keep the game, display, settings and connection mode as constant as possible.
- Interpret the result cautiously. If you report a number, explain the measurement method, conditions and uncertainty. Without isolating the adapter, a subjective impression cannot show that it caused the delay.
What to compare before choosing an adapter
An adapter is worth considering when you have a specific controller-compatibility need, not because a product description promises a particular latency outcome. Compare the following for the exact setup you plan to use:

- PS5 and game support: Does the adapter support the platform, and does the game accept the resulting input?
- Connection method: Is the setup wired or wireless, and does it match the arrangement you intend to use?
- Firmware: Are update instructions and relevant release notes available?
- Measured latency: Is there an independent test of the same adapter, controller and comparable conditions? The manufacturer pages cited here do not establish comparative latency results.
Brook describes Wingman FGC 2 as supporting PS5 and wired controllers, while limiting guaranteed support to controllers on its official compatibility list. Mayflash lists controller compatibility and firmware history for MAGIC-S PRO 2. Neither fact alone establishes a universal delay value or proves that one model is faster than another.

Would a keyboard or mouse avoid the need for an adapter?
Not necessarily. Sony supports USB and Bluetooth keyboards and mice at the system level, but notes that not all devices work. Individual game developers decide whether their games support keyboard and mouse, so system-level support does not make them a universal substitute for a controller adapter.
