Usually, yes: with Joy-Con 2 attached, Nintendo Switch 2 measures about 272 mm (10.7 in) across and 166 mm (6.5 in) high. Many regular backpacks and some larger crossbody bags can accommodate it, but check the usable interior and opening of your specific bag—and allow room for the controls or a protective case.
How much space does the Switch 2 need?
Nintendo lists the console at approximately 166 × 272 × 13.9 mm with Joy-Con 2 attached. The 13.9 mm figure is the nominal thickness, not the thickest point: the distance from the control-stick tips to the protruding ZL/ZR buttons is up to 30.7 mm. The console weighs approximately 534 g with Joy-Con 2 attached; the console itself is approximately 401 g. These figures are from Nintendo’s April 2, 2025 release: Nintendo Switch 2 to be released on June 5, 2025.

For a bag-fit check, think of the device as roughly 27.2 cm long, 16.6 cm tall and up to 3.1 cm thick at its protruding controls. Nintendo’s UK specifications page presents a different height figure (116 mm) alongside the same width and body thickness; use the April 2025 release dimensions above for this estimate. Will it fit in a regular backpack?
Often, but the category name alone cannot guarantee a fit. Compare the Switch 2 with the backpack’s usable internal compartment dimensions, not its exterior measurements. A compartment that is long and wide enough may still be awkward if the opening is narrow, the lining or seams reduce its usable space, or other packed items press against the console.

If you carry the console in a case, compare the bag with the case’s outside dimensions instead of the bare console. A case adds bulk, and the zipper or flap opening must also be wide enough to pass it through.
Will it fit in a crossbody bag?
Some larger crossbody bags may fit it, but compact styles may not. The 272 mm (10.7 in) side is the key constraint: check that the compartment is long enough and that the opening lets the console—or its case—slide in without forcing it. A bag can appear roomy from the outside while having a shorter or narrower usable interior.

How to check your bag before carrying it
- Measure the interior. Check the usable length and width of the compartment where the console will sit.
- Check the opening. Make sure the console can pass through the zipper, flap or other opening in the orientation you plan to use.
- Allow for thickness. Account for the up-to-30.7 mm at the control-stick and ZL/ZR protrusions, rather than relying only on the 13.9 mm body-thickness figure.
- Measure the packed setup. If using a protective case, compare the bag against the case’s exterior dimensions. Leave space for anything else you plan to carry.
- Consider what else you need. Carrying the console alone takes less room than bringing the dock, cables and additional controllers as well.
Should you use a carrying case?
A dedicated case is optional for fit, but it can add protection when the console is packed with other belongings. Nintendo lists a Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector; check its dimensions if you intend to put the cased console into a backpack or crossbody bag.
If you need to transport the TV-mode setup too, Nintendo’s All-In-One Carrying Case is designed to hold the console, dock, Joy-Con 2 controllers, various cables and up to six game cards.
