Yes—if your NAS can run a suitable encoder continuously and your internet connection can sustain the upload. The NAS stores and serves the prerecorded video; an encoder reads it and sends a live feed to YouTube. Container support alone does not guarantee that a particular NAS can encode your chosen format or keep a stream stable around the clock.
What a NAS-based YouTube stream needs
Think of the setup as three parts: prerecorded files on the NAS, an encoder process that reads those files, and an outbound stream to YouTube Live. Depending on your NAS and encoder, the encoder may run in a supported container or another environment the NAS supports.

YouTube accepts encoder-based live streams. Its encoder setup guide describes the general workflow. A NAS is simply one possible place to host the encoder—not a built-in 24/7 streaming feature common to all NAS devices.

Check whether your exact NAS can do the work
Before installing anything, verify that the precise NAS model and its processor can run the encoder you plan to use. Vendor container support establishes that some models can run containers; it does not prove that every model has the resources or compatibility needed for continuous video encoding.

- Entry-level NAS Personal Storage:UGREEN NAS DH2300 is your first and best NAS made easy. It is designed for beginners who want a simple, private way to store videos, photos and personal files, which is intuitive for users moving from cloud storage or external drives and move away from scattered date across devices. This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
- Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. You can store 22 million 3MB images, or 2 million 30MB songs, or 43K 1.5GB movies or 67 million 1MB documents! UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
- The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
- Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
- Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
- Confirm container or runtime support. Synology’s Container Manager page provides a compatibility list for supported models. QNAP says Container Station integrates Docker. Check the vendor’s current list for your exact model.
- Check processor architecture and encoder requirements. Confirm the encoder software supports the NAS processor and operating environment. The available vendor and YouTube guidance does not establish a universal minimum CPU or memory requirement.
- Allow for the actual workload. Encoding can use substantial CPU resources, especially at higher resolutions or frame rates. Test the intended settings and watch NAS resource use rather than assuming that a container will run smoothly.
- Check storage access. The encoder needs permission to read the video files and any playlists or configuration it uses. Container paths and NAS permissions depend on the chosen runtime and encoder.
- Verify the upload connection. The NAS must send the stream out continuously. The connection’s stability and available upload capacity matter as much as the NAS itself.
Choose YouTube-compatible encoder settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP, for ingest. Its encoder settings and bitrate guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; frame rates up to 60 fps; and keyframes recommended every two seconds, no more than four seconds apart. Your encoder must support a combination that YouTube accepts.
For H.264, YouTube’s published bitrate examples include these settings:

| Video setting | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s encoder bitrate recommendations, not a measurement or guarantee of your NAS or internet service. YouTube advises keeping 20% upload bandwidth headroom. Measure real outbound throughput under normal household or office use, and leave room for other traffic; an unreliable connection can break the stream, as YouTube notes in its streaming tips.

- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements say the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Live streamers must be at least 16.
- Prepare the encoder and media. Configure the encoder to read the intended prerecorded files from NAS storage. Set its output format, bitrate, keyframe interval, and audio encoding to values accepted by YouTube and appropriate for your connection.
- Connect to YouTube using your stream details. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup flow to create or select the live stream and enter the stream key in the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not expose it in a public file, screenshot, or log.
- Preview in Live Control Room. Test the feed before announcing or depending on it. Check that video and audio are present, the stream is accessible, and YouTube reports healthy delivery.
- Run a realistic trial. Test the playlist or loop behavior, file access, encoder logs, CPU load, and network stability over a meaningful period. Confirm how the particular encoder handles a restart or network interruption; behavior varies by implementation.
- Monitor the ongoing process. Check encoder logs and YouTube stream health, and decide how you will detect a stopped process, exhausted storage, or a lost connection. YouTube’s guidance recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming a long run will remain uninterrupted.
Looping, recovery, and limits to plan for
Whether files loop, playlists advance, the encoder restarts automatically, or streaming resumes after an interruption depends on the encoder and its configuration. The Synology and QNAP container pages establish runtime availability for supported models, not a certified NAS-to-YouTube workflow with guaranteed looping or recovery. Check the selected encoder’s documentation and test these failure cases yourself.

YouTube’s materials describe continuous-stream services, but they do not promise that a stream can remain live indefinitely or set a universal maximum runtime. Plan for monitoring and recovery; do not advertise a stream as guaranteed to run forever.
Copyright, reused material, and channel rules
Being able to transmit a prerecorded file does not establish that you have the right to stream it. Ensure you have permission for the video, music, and other material, and that the stream follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube can restrict live-stream access. Review the platform’s requirements before scheduling a continuous broadcast.

Alternatives if your NAS is not suitable
If the NAS cannot host a compatible encoder with adequate resources, the practical alternatives include a cloud service or dedicated encoder hardware. YouTube’s encoder directory identifies both cloud streaming services and hardware that can schedule prerecorded media; the directory’s descriptions do not establish current pricing, service terms, or suitability for your channel.
