Usually, a restart by itself does not cancel channel memberships. Memberships belong to your YouTube channel, while a live stream is a delivery session. But YouTube does not promise that a restart will preserve the same live session or watch page, or that membership earnings will be uninterrupted. Check what actually happened in Live Control Room and your channel’s revenue reporting rather than assuming either outcome.
Memberships and live sessions are separate
YouTube Help explains that viewers may buy a channel membership while watching a live stream, and that eligible channels can offer memberships. That makes the live stream a place where viewers can discover or join a channel membership; it does not establish that membership status depends on one specific live session.

In encoder streaming, the stream URL and stream key send the encoder’s feed to YouTube. YouTube’s setup guidance describes creating a watch page when the encoder starts, and ending the stream by stopping the feed. It does not give a blanket rule that every restart keeps the same watch page or session. A restart can therefore interrupt delivery even though the channel’s membership feature remains available.
These are different questions: whether viewers can still join or retain channel memberships, and whether a particular live session continues without interruption or generates revenue during a restart. The cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee a specific payout, uninterrupted earnings, or session continuity for an individual restart.

First determine what was restarted
Only the encoder or sending device restarted
If the encoder stopped sending and then reconnected, inspect the stream in Live Control Room and open the public watch page. Confirm whether YouTube shows a live broadcast and whether viewers can watch it. Do not assume the previous session or page continued just because the encoder reused a stream key.
The YouTube stream itself was ended
If you stopped the feed in a way that ended the YouTube stream, treat the next start as a new live session unless YouTube’s current Live Control Room state shows otherwise. The encoder guide explains how a feed starts and ends, but does not promise that a later start will resume the identical session or watch page.

What to check after reconnecting
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Verify that the stream is live and check for encoder or connection warnings.
- Check the public watch page. Confirm that it plays and that it is the page you intend viewers to use. If you announced or embedded the earlier page, verify that it still points to the active broadcast.
- Review channel membership and revenue reporting. Use your own YouTube Studio data to determine what was recorded for the affected period. The cited help pages do not specify how a particular restart will appear in an individual channel’s reporting.
- If the interruption repeats, troubleshoot the sending path. YouTube recommends adequate outbound bandwidth and a reliable network. Check that the encoder is functioning and test the strength of the outbound connection, following YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance and streaming tips.
Keep archive and DVR limits separate from membership earnings
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. A 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as one guaranteed, uninterrupted archived playback. These archive and playback limits do not establish whether memberships remain available or what a restart will earn.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a pre-recorded YouTube stream, StreamNeo keeps uploaded videos or playlists looping from the cloud: upload a recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it supports any quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month. This can reduce the need to keep a local computer running, but it cannot guarantee YouTube session continuity or membership earnings. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
