Even a properly licensed track can trigger a live-stream interruption if its rights holder has not added your channel to YouTube’s Content ID allowlist. And music permission alone does not guarantee that a 24/7 lofi channel qualifies for YouTube monetization.
Check the exact Creative Commons license first
Find the license attached to the exact recording and note its name and version. Creative Commons licenses differ on commercial use, adaptations and attribution; all six require attribution. Read the license itself and follow any additional conditions rather than relying on a label such as “free” or “Creative Commons.” Creative Commons license descriptions

| License | Commercial use | What to check for a lofi stream |
|---|---|---|
| CC BY | Allowed, subject to conditions | Credit the creator and follow the license’s other terms. Adaptations are allowed with attribution. |
| CC BY-SA | Allowed, subject to conditions | Credit the creator. If your use creates adapted material, the ShareAlike condition requires that material to be offered under the same or a compatible license. |
| CC BY-ND | Commercial redistribution is allowed, but adaptations are not | Whether a particular sync, edit, loop or other change counts as an adaptation depends on the facts and applicable law. Do not assume your planned use qualifies as unadapted distribution. |
| CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-SA, CC BY-NC-ND | Noncommercial use only | Do not use for a monetized channel unless you obtain separate permission for commercial use. SA and ND conditions also apply where relevant. |
YouTube says, “You can monetize Creative Commons content if the license agreement grants you rights to use it commercially.” YouTube Help: License types on YouTube If your channel may earn ad revenue, sponsorship income or other revenue, treat commercial permission as necessary and get written permission before using an NC track commercially.
Confirm the person offering the track can license it
A license label only helps if the person granting it controls the rights they are offering. Check the rights for both the recording and the underlying composition, and ask about samples, collaborators or other third-party material. The license on a track page does not, by itself, establish that the uploader had authority to grant those rights.

- Save the track page, license name and version, source URL, and the date you checked them.
- Keep written permission for any rights that are not clearly covered, including commercial use of an NC track.
- Check whether your intended edits, looping, mixing or synchronization are permitted, especially for ND and SA tracks.
- Keep a record of any rights-holder confirmation or Content ID allowlist approval.
Credit each track in the stream description
Follow the license’s attribution terms. YouTube recommends including the work’s title, author, source URL and license information. For CC tracks from the YouTube Audio Library, YouTube says attribution is required in the description. YouTube Help: License types on YouTube YouTube Help: Use music and sound effects from the Audio Library
A clear entry for each work can include:
- Track title and creator
- Original source URL
- Exact license name and version, with a link to the license
- Any additional credit or notice the license requires
Keep the attribution in the stream description and, where applicable, the archived stream’s description. Credit is a license condition, not a substitute for commercial permission or rights-holder approval.
Prepare for Content ID checks on live streams
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the content remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. A valid license does not necessarily prevent that interruption: YouTube says licensed creators should ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
- Contact the rights holder before going live and request that your YouTube channel be added to its Content ID allowlist.
- Keep the license or written permission and the allowlist confirmation where you can retrieve them.
- Check the stream archive after the broadcast. YouTube says Content ID claims may be made after a live stream ends.
- Keep a fallback playlist made up of tracks whose rights and platform terms you have documented.
Music rights do not settle YouTube monetization eligibility
A license answers whether you may use the music under its terms; YouTube Partner Program eligibility is a separate decision. YouTube says monetized content must be original and non-repetitious, among other requirements, and that creators need commercial rights to all audio and visual elements. YouTube Help: What kind of content can I monetize?
Rank #3
A Creative Commons license does not guarantee that YouTube will approve a channel or monetize a particular 24/7 loop or playlist format. Assess the channel’s actual content against YouTube’s current monetization policies rather than treating music clearance as proof of eligibility.
Consider the YouTube Audio Library as an alternative
YouTube says YPP members can monetize Audio Library tracks and that downloaded Audio Library music will not be claimed by a rights holder through Content ID. CC tracks in the Audio Library still require attribution in the description. These statements apply to that library; they should not be assumed to cover unrelated “royalty-free” music services. Before you start the 24/7 stream
- Identify the exact license for every track and confirm commercial use is allowed if the channel may earn revenue.
- Verify the licensor’s authority over the recording, composition and any included samples or contributions.
- Check that the planned loop, edit, mix and synchronization do not conflict with ND, SA or other license conditions.
- Add the required attribution and preserve the license evidence.
- Request Content ID allowlisting from rights holders and keep a fallback playlist ready.
- Review YouTube’s monetization rules separately; a cleared soundtrack is not a promise of YPP approval.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the music is cleared and you want a pre-recorded lofi stream to keep running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo runs the YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not clear music rights or guarantee monetization, so complete the checks above first.
