You can run a continuous YouTube jazz stream by using Liquidsoap to schedule and shape your audio, pairing that audio with a visual source, and sending the encoded audio/video to YouTube Live. Liquidsoap can keep a playlist moving, but it cannot by itself guarantee a 24/7 broadcast: the host, internet connection, music rights, recovery plan, monitoring, and recording policy all matter.
How the stream is put together
A conventional internet radio setup often sends audio to an Icecast server. A YouTube Live broadcast is different: it needs an audiovisual stream. In this architecture, Liquidsoap manages the audio playlist and its transitions; a still image, loop, or other visual source accompanies the audio; FFmpeg encodes the combined output; and Liquidsoap sends it to YouTube’s ingest endpoint using your channel’s stream key.

- Liquidsoap: selects and sequences the jazz recordings, and can provide rotation, jingles, crossfades, or fallback sources.
- Visual source: supplies video for YouTube. A static cover image is the simplest option; a loop or live visuals add complexity and can require more processing.
- FFmpeg encoder: produces the outgoing video and audio in a format YouTube accepts.
- YouTube Live: receives the stream. An Icecast server is optional, useful only if you also want a separate conventional radio endpoint.
This is an always-running process, not an availability guarantee. A crashed host, lost upload connection, exhausted disk, rejected music match, or unhandled encoder failure can still interrupt the channel.
Prepare the music and playlist
Confirm the broadcast rights first
Use recordings you are authorized to broadcast on the channel and in the relevant territories. Owning a file or having permission to play music privately does not establish that you have the rights needed for a public YouTube live stream. Keep records of applicable licenses and check whether a rights holder needs to allowlist the channel through Content ID.

- [XLR Mic Input] One XLR microphone input interface is set on the gaming audio mixer, which is great to up your audio quality with your XLR setup. The XLR mixer is a stepping stone to upgrade your live streaming. Audio mixer offered built-in 48V phantom power which opens up more choices for mics. Directly use it with your condenser microphone but do not solve added peripherals. (NOT available for USB mic)
- [Individual Channel Control] Gaming audio mixer for one mic recording with smooth volume slider fader take your streaming recording to a whole new level with full pleasure. Four independent channels set on the DJ mixer give audio volume of the MICROPHONE, LINE IN, HEADPHONE, and LINE OUT channels individual control. Configurable on the PC audio mixer instead of just operating on your game or streaming software.
- [Mute and Monitor] The front mute and monitor buttons but not at the back, make it easier to get the audio interface use. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
YouTube says it scans all live streams for third-party matches, including copyrighted content in another live broadcast. An unresolved match can interrupt or terminate a stream. A playlist that works technically is not cleared legally merely because it consists of jazz, public-domain compositions, or tracks purchased for personal listening; rights in a particular recording and the applicable license still matter.
Build a playlist with continuity in mind
Organize the authorized recordings in a playlist source that Liquidsoap can read. The Liquidsoap examples support playlist-driven programming, including rotation, jingles, and crossfading. Decide whether the station should play tracks in a fixed order or rotate them; consider transitions and whether announcements or station identifiers belong between selections.
Add a fallback only if you have a defined behavior for it. For example, a fallback can provide alternate audio when a preferred source is unavailable, and Liquidsoap’s examples also demonstrate falling back to a video playlist when a live RTMP source is absent. A fallback should not silently substitute music whose rights you have not checked.

Create the audiovisual output
Choose a visual source
A static cover image is a straightforward visual for a radio-style channel. The Liquidsoap book’s example uses single("image.jpg") as an image source and source.mux.video to combine video with audio. Treat those names as a conceptual guide rather than a complete drop-in configuration: operator signatures and FFmpeg integration can differ by Liquidsoap version, so validate the syntax against the reference for the version you install.
A visual loop or live visual production is another option, but it introduces more moving parts and may increase CPU use. Choose visuals you have permission to use and test the result in YouTube’s preview; a correct playlist alone does not prove that the video component is being delivered properly.
Pin and validate your Liquidsoap version
Liquidsoap documentation and examples can describe different versions. Pick a version, install the required FFmpeg support, and verify that the playlist, muxing, and YouTube output operators in your configuration match that version’s reference. The versioned YouTube RTMP reference is for Liquidsoap 2.4.5; do not assume an example from the current homepage or development documentation has identical syntax in another release.

Configure the encoder and YouTube destination
Use YouTube’s current ingest settings
Liquidsoap’s official examples show an FFmpeg-backed YouTube output using output.youtube.live.rtmp, H.264 video, and AAC audio. The versioned reference describes the RTMP output, default ingest URL, secret stream key, encoder, and automatic-start setting. Configure the output using the syntax supported by your pinned Liquidsoap release rather than copying a configuration blindly across versions.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance recommends H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval, with a maximum interval of 4 seconds. Its recommended H.264 video bitrates include:
| Output video | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
These are encoder recommendations, not a guarantee of smooth delivery. Check YouTube’s live encoder table when configuring the stream because platform guidance can change, and select a resolution and frame rate that match the visual production and the upload connection.

Allow enough upload bandwidth
YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom above the total stream bitrate. Include both primary and backup stream bitrates in that total if you send both. Measure the actual sustained upload capacity of the host’s connection, then keep the chosen stream settings below the available capacity with the recommended margin; a nominal ISP speed or a short successful test does not rule out congestion or intermittent loss.
Set up the channel and protect the key
- Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so activate it before the planned launch.
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and obtain its ingest URL and stream key. Use the destination details required by your Liquidsoap output configuration.
- Store the key as a secret, not in a public configuration repository, shared screenshot, or log. Restrict access to the host and any operator who needs it.
- Start with a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast, inspect the preview and stream health, and confirm that the audio and visual are synchronized and intelligible before announcing a continuous schedule.
Treat a stream key like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and replace the old value in the encoder configuration; YouTube documents resetting a compromised key.
Keep the process running and recover from failures
Plan host capacity and supervision
Video encoding uses more CPU than audio-only processing in Liquidsoap’s FFmpeg guidance. Size the host for the chosen resolution, frame rate, encoding settings, playlist handling, and any visual production, then test under sustained load. The available guidance does not establish a universal hardware minimum or a universally best hosting provider.

Whether you run on a local machine or hosted server, plan for process supervision and restart behavior. A supervisor can restart a failed process, but it cannot fix a broken configuration, unavailable network, exhausted storage, rejected stream key, or a copyright interruption. If continuous availability is important, decide who receives alerts and what recovery action they can take. A second encoder or redundant connection may improve recovery options, but it also adds configuration, bandwidth, and monitoring requirements.
Monitor more than whether Liquidsoap is running
- Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators for missing video, silence, dropped frames, or bitrate instability.
- Check the host’s CPU, memory, disk space, network connection, and process status.
- Confirm that the playlist advances and that transitions, fallback behavior, and any visual source work as intended.
- Test what happens after a process restart and after a temporary network interruption; do not assume recovery without observing it.
- Monitor YouTube notices for rights matches or other interruptions, and have a rights-aware response plan.
Decide how to handle recordings and archives
YouTube can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a complete recording matters for a continuous radio program, record locally and verify the recording is usable instead of relying on YouTube’s archive. Estimate storage from the actual recording bitrate and the retention period you need; the platform guidance does not prescribe a particular drive type or capacity.
Local recording also needs its own checks: available space, file rotation or retention, and a way to notice a failed recording. An archive is not a substitute for music rights or a reliable live output.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a YouTube stream of uploaded recordings without keeping a Liquidsoap host running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it is not a camera-based live production service.
- Nothing has to stay powered on at home; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than separate quality tiers.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required, one free day per account.

Quick Recap
Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no stream | Wrong ingest URL or stream key, output not started, or YouTube live access not enabled | Confirm the destination details in the selected YouTube stream, verify live access, and inspect Liquidsoap/FFmpeg output errors. Reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
| Audio plays but YouTube has no usable video | The visual source was not muxed correctly or the video encoder/output is misconfigured | Check the image or visual source, the version-specific mux configuration, and YouTube’s preview. Validate against the installed Liquidsoap version. |
| Stream health is unstable or frames drop | Upload capacity is insufficient or inconsistent, bitrate is too high, or the host is overloaded | Check sustained upload bandwidth, retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and inspect CPU usage. Reduce the selected video settings if necessary. |
| Playback stops when a track ends | The playlist ran out, files were unavailable, or no appropriate fallback is configured | Check playlist paths and ordering, confirm that recordings are readable, and test the intended rotation or fallback behavior. |
| Broadcast is interrupted after a rights match | YouTube detected third-party content or the channel is not authorized/allowlisted for the material | Review YouTube’s notice, confirm the recording and territory rights, and contact the relevant rights holder about any required Content ID allowlisting. Do not simply restart with the same unresolved material. |
| A full-length archive is missing | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit | Use a verified local recording for programs where a complete archive is required. |
