Does YouTube allow a still image during a 24/7 rain stream?
YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance does not say that a static image is forbidden, but it does not specifically approve a continuous rain-audio stream with one still image. Treat the format as not expressly prohibited in the reviewed guidance—not as a platform ruling that your particular stream is approved. YouTube also does not guarantee that a stream will stay live for 24 hours or specify a maximum duration for this exact format.

To go live, YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It lists streaming by mobile device, webcam, encoder, or console. Possibly, if the channel and stream meet the applicable requirements, but a 24/7 schedule and a static visual do not guarantee approval or earnings. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that its repetitious-content rule is called “inauthentic content” and covers repetitive or mass-produced material. The policy says monetized videos should be materially varied and provide creative, educational, or other value. A rain stream built from a single still image and repeated or interchangeable audio may therefore face monetization-review risk; it is not automatically approved or automatically disqualified on that basis alone. For channels eligible to monetize a live stream, YouTube may serve ads, and eligible creators may have access to features such as Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships. Requirements differ by feature. YouTube notes that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Do not estimate income from the stream’s duration alone. Check audio and image rights separately
A static image is not a substitute for permission. Use rain audio and visuals you created or are licensed to use, and keep records of licences and permissions. A stream can be technically possible while still infringing someone else’s rights.

YouTube’s Live Content ID guidance describes a specific rights-matching feature: matching requires global rights and exclusive ownership, and a stream using that feature cannot contain third-party static images, commercials, or background music. This is a condition for operating that Content ID matching feature—not a blanket rule that every third-party still image or background track is prohibited in every livestream. What to consider before leaving the stream running
- Make the content defensible: retain evidence of your rights to the rain recording and image. If you use licensed third-party material, check that the licence covers livestreaming and your intended use.
- Plan for monetization review: consider whether the stream offers material variation or other creative value beyond an unchanged image and repeated sound. YouTube’s policy does not promise approval for any particular format.
- Plan for continuity: sustained operation depends on your encoder, connection, and stream management. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not promise 24/7 uptime or give a maximum duration for this format, so test your setup and decide how you will handle an interruption.
- Do not assume revenue: monetization features have eligibility requirements, and ad delivery is not guaranteed.
