If a video appears black in your CameraFi Live YouTube stream, first check whether it is also black on your phone. If local playback fails too, troubleshoot playback on the phone; if it looks normal locally but viewers see black, the problem is on the broadcast path. CameraFi’s official materials do not identify one confirmed cause or guaranteed fix for this exact symptom, so use the checks below to narrow it down.
First, find out where the picture disappears
Play the same video on your phone while checking the stream preview or asking a viewer what appears on YouTube. Note separately whether the picture is visible locally and whether sound reaches the stream. This comparison is a diagnostic step, not a CameraFi-prescribed fix.

Confirm CameraFi Live is using the right mode
CameraFi Live offers camera and screen workflows. Camera mode uses a phone or external camera; Screen mode is intended to broadcast the phone screen, including apps and games. If your goal is to show a video playing in another app, check that you started a screen broadcast rather than a camera broadcast.

- Open CameraFi Live and choose Screen mode.
- Select YouTube as the destination and proceed through the broadcast controls shown in your version of the app.
- Start the broadcast, then check the YouTube output while the video plays locally.
CameraFi’s screen-streaming guide from 2020 describes selecting Screen mode, choosing a platform such as YouTube, and starting the broadcast; app labels and steps may have changed since that guide. Its statement that vertical broadcasts were available only in YouTube Event mode is specific to that historical workflow, not a current universal rule.

If playback is black on the phone too
YouTube’s general playback guidance recommends basic troubleshooting for videos that will not play correctly. These are playback checks, not a CameraFi-specific screen-capture fix.
- Try a different network connection.
- Clear the YouTube app cache if the video is playing in the YouTube app.
- Update the relevant software, then restart the phone.
- Test playback on another supported device, if available.
If only one video-playing app has the problem, note that when you report it. Do not assume a particular format, copy protection, or hardware fault without evidence for your device and app combination.

If local playback works but the stream is black
The official CameraFi and YouTube guidance reviewed does not establish a specific cause for this combination, so avoid treating a codec, DRM, or hardware explanation as confirmed. Gather details that let support distinguish a local playback issue from a capture-path issue:

- Phone make and model, and Android version.
- CameraFi Live version and the name and version of the app playing the video.
- Whether the video picture is visible on the phone and whether sound reaches the YouTube stream.
- Whether the issue affects one video or multiple videos, if you have checked.
CameraFi’s FAQ says screen broadcasting is supported only on Android (as of December 20, 2024). It also notes that internal-audio capture depends on Android OS and support in the target app. Verify compatibility for your phone and apps rather than assuming every combination behaves alike. These audio limits do not establish a cause for missing video.

Keep copyright and policy notices separate from a black picture
If YouTube displays a copyright or Community Guidelines warning, address that notice separately; it is not, by itself, an explanation for a black captured picture. CameraFi’s FAQ directs users to YouTube help for copyright and Community Guidelines strikes. Only stream video you have the rights and permissions to use, and follow YouTube’s applicable policies.
