South Fremantle small forward Cameron “Cam” Maynard ran the second-fastest 20m sprint at the 2026 AFL National Draft Combine, clocking 2.898 seconds. Only Mason McGroder was quicker, in 2.827 seconds.
Maynard’s time and the 2026 combine ranking
WA Football reported the result on 3 October 2026 after testing in Melbourne on Saturday. McGroder finished 0.071 seconds ahead of Maynard, based on the reported times. The result is a placing in the 2026 combine sprint, not a claim about the event’s all-time record. WA Football’s report

How Maynard’s run compared with the WA group
Maynard was one of seven WA athletes at the combine. WA Football said all seven recorded personal-best times in the 20m sprint. Steed, at 3.02 seconds, was the next-best WA runner named in the report. Maynard had also appeared in the EGT WAFL Colts Grand Final for South Fremantle, the Bulldogs, shortly before the combine. WA Football describes Maynard as a speedster and small forward; the official 2026 combine invite list identifies him as a WA player from South Fremantle.

What the AFL 20m sprint test measures
The AFL describes the 20m sprint as a speed test. Athletes start from a crouch or ready position and are instructed not to slow down before the final timing gate. Each participant gets three attempts, with at least two minutes of rest between them. The best recorded 5m, 10m and 20m sector times are kept separately, so the best time for each distance can come from a different attempt. AFL Draft Combine test details

Maynard’s 2.898 seconds is therefore a result in a specific combine test. On its own, it does not establish draft selection, an overall athletic ranking or how he will perform in matches.
