You can register a .space domain through Bluehost if the name is available. The extension can suit a portfolio, creative project, community, or business, and Bluehost lists it among the domains eligible for one free year with qualifying hosting plans. But Bluehost does not publish a dependable fixed standalone .space price in its public pricing information, so check both the checkout price and renewal rate before buying.
What is a .space domain?
.space is a generic top-level domain (gTLD), not a country-code domain. Bluehost says the extension is managed by Radix and is open to registrants worldwide, subject to name availability and applicable rules. It may fit a creative studio, portfolio, coworking project, online community, educational platform, startup, or personal site. Those are possible uses, not restrictions.

The extension is a branding choice. Registering it does not provide web hosting, email, SSL, or website security, and it does not by itself improve search rankings or establish that a business is legitimate. Bluehost’s description of .space as a creative alternative to .com is its marketing position, not independent evidence about user trust or SEO performance. Bluehost’s .space page

Is .space a good alternative to .com?
| Consideration | .space | .com |
|---|---|---|
| Brand fit | Can reinforce a creative, community, digital-home, or spatial concept. | A familiar general-purpose choice that may not express a specific concept. |
| Name availability | May offer another route when the exact .com name is taken; check the specific name. | The desired name may already be registered. |
| Audience familiarity | Some people may need to be told the extension or may instinctively type .com. | Generally more familiar as a general-business extension, according to Bluehost’s positioning. |
| Cost | Bluehost’s exact standalone and renewal prices must be checked at checkout. | Do not assume its price is a guide to .space pricing. |
| Search performance | No ranking advantage is established by the extension itself. | No ranking advantage is established by the extension itself. |
Choose .space if it makes the name clearer or more memorable for your audience. Before committing, say it aloud, test whether people can spell it, and consider how it will appear in advertising and email addresses. Availability does not establish trademark permission, so avoid names confusingly similar to another business or protected mark.

How much does a .space domain cost at Bluehost?
Bluehost does not provide a dependable fixed .space registration or renewal amount in its public pricing information. The amount may vary with the name, term, promotion, and whether the result is a premium domain. Check the live checkout and the Renewal Center rather than using a price for another extension as a substitute. Bluehost .space information and Bluehost domain pricing guidance
Before paying, note the displayed price and term for each item:
- Registration: Check whether the amount covers one year or a longer term and whether it is promotional.
- Renewal: Record the rate after the initial term. Compare it with the registration price to understand the ongoing cost.
- Premium status: A premium name may have a different price and may not qualify for a promotion.
- Privacy and add-ons: Check whether privacy, email, hosting, security, or backup products are included or separately billed.
- Taxes: Review the final total. Bluehost notes that advertised prices may exclude VAT for EU customers.
Bluehost says domain registrations and renewals are non-refundable. Domain and hosting refund terms are separate, so do not treat a hosting refund policy as a way to reverse a domain registration. Save the checkout details and order confirmation. Bluehost registration guidance

How to buy a .space domain from Bluehost
- Open Bluehost’s .space domain page or its domain search.
- Enter the name you want. Include “.space” if the search does not already specify the extension, then submit the search.
- Check the spelling carefully and review the result. Confirm that the exact name is available and whether Bluehost identifies it as premium.
- Select the name and choose the registration term shown in the flow.
- Review the cart line by line: registration, renewal terms, privacy, hosting, email, security, and backup. Remove any optional products you do not want.
- Create or sign in to your Bluehost account, enter payment details, and review the full amount and renewal terms before submitting payment. Bluehost’s registration guide lists card, Google Pay, and PayPal as payment options; availability can depend on checkout.
- After purchase, check the order email and open the Bluehost Portal. Confirm the domain, expiration date, contact details, nameservers, and auto-renewal setting.
Bluehost says a registered domain cannot be edited. If you misspell the name, correcting it generally means registering another domain; verify every character before payment. Bluehost domain-registration guide
What Bluehost’s free-domain offer includes
Bluehost lists .SPACE as eligible for one free domain year when bought with a qualifying 12- or 36-month hosting plan. The domain must be claimed within 90 days, and premium domains are excluded. After the first year, it renews at the then-current rate. The hosting plan itself is paid, so compare the total hosting commitment and later domain renewal with buying a domain separately. Bluehost hosting pricing and offer terms
The domain and hosting have separate renewal dates and billing considerations. Bluehost’s pricing information also says cancelling hosting may result in a domain charge or deduction based on its standard domain cost if you want to retain the domain. Check the applicable account terms before relying on the promotion.
Privacy and domain security are different things
These services address different risks; one does not replace the others:

One-click scans. No signup required.
- Domain registration reserves the name for the registration term.
- Domain privacy can mask eligible registrant details in public registration data. Bluehost says privacy eligibility varies by extension; confirm whether it is active and whether it has a separate charge or renewal in your checkout and Portal. Bluehost privacy guidance
- Domain lock helps prevent unauthorized transfers. Enable or confirm it in the account where available.
- Auto-renewal attempts to renew the registration; it does not guarantee renewal if payment fails.
- SSL encrypts traffic to a website. It is not domain privacy.
- Website security features such as malware monitoring and backups are separate from owning the domain.
Do not assume privacy is included indefinitely because a registration screen offered it. Check the account’s current status and renewal terms.
Connect the domain to a website or email
Buying a domain does not create a website or automatically connect it to an existing one. Once you know where the site and email are hosted, use the DNS records required by those providers.
- For a website hosted elsewhere, document the existing DNS settings first, then enter the host’s required nameservers or A and CNAME records.
- For third-party email, configure the provider’s MX records and any other records it specifies. Incorrect MX changes can interrupt mail even if the website still loads.
- After connecting hosting, confirm HTTPS works; domain registration alone does not enable SSL.
- Check the site and email after DNS changes rather than assuming the settings took effect immediately.
Before changing nameservers, save the current DNS records. If you are transferring an existing site or email service, verify the destination settings with the host or email provider first.

Bluehost says a domain transfer generally requires that the domain be more than 60 days old, unlocked, and free of a hold or dispute. A recent registrant change may trigger a 60-day transfer lock. Bluehost displays the transfer charge in the Portal and says that fee renews the domain for one year after transfer completion. The transfer may take up to seven days, according to Bluehost; timing can vary. Bluehost domain-transfer guide
- Confirm eligibility and make sure the domain will not expire during the transfer.
- Record current nameservers and DNS records, especially website and email settings.
- At the current registrar, unlock the domain and obtain its authorization or EPP code.
- Start the transfer through Bluehost, review the displayed fee, and submit the EPP code.
- Watch for approval messages and complete any requested confirmation.
- After completion, verify nameservers, DNS, website access, and email routing in the Bluehost Portal.
Bluehost warns that DNS records do not automatically move with a domain and that DNS changes may be unavailable while a transfer is in progress. Do not assume a transfer is downtime-free; preserve the settings needed to restore your site and mail.

Renewal, expiration, and recovery
Bluehost says domain auto-renewal is enabled by default and attempts renewal 15 days before expiration. Keep the payment method current and check the Portal rather than relying on the default. Domain renewal is separate from hosting and privacy renewal, and Bluehost says domain renewals are non-refundable. Bluehost domain-renewal guidance
If renewal fails or is missed, the domain can expire and disrupt the website, email, redirects, and your control of the name. Bluehost says grace periods vary by TLD and commonly range from 0 to 45 days; it then describes a 30-day redemption period and a $99 reactivation fee. These are Bluehost’s stated policies, not a guarantee of the exact .space registry timeline. After pending deletion, recovery may no longer be possible and the name may eventually be available for registration by someone else.
When Bluehost is a sensible choice
Bluehost is a practical option if you already host there, want domain and hosting management in one account, or qualify for the hosting-linked first-year offer. A domain-only buyer, a portfolio owner, or someone prioritizing predictable long-term pricing should compare the checkout and renewal terms with registrar-focused alternatives before committing. Examples to evaluate include Namecheap, Porkbun, Cloudflare Registrar, and GoDaddy. Their current .space prices and terms are not established here, so compare each registrar’s registration, renewal, privacy, transfer, and DNS terms directly.
For a fair comparison, add up the actual two- or three-year cost, including any hosting you genuinely need and optional services you choose. Do not buy a hosting plan solely to obtain a “free” domain without comparing that full commitment with domain-only registration.
