BURST is a prototype designed to turn a broad intention into one small, time-bounded action. Its creator, Pragya Tandi, built it for her father around a common sticking point: knowing what needs to be done—and wanting to do it—does not always make starting easy. The current experience moves from a goal to a mission, then into a timed “Burst” session. Tandi presents that as a design idea, not a proven way to improve focus or productivity.
What BURST is designed to do
Tandi’s product line for BURST is “Turn Intention Into Action.” The prototype focuses on the moment between deciding to do something and beginning it. Rather than leaving a person with a broad task or reminder, it asks them to identify a smaller next action and gives that action a defined session.

For example, “Finish the project” could become “write the first three points of the proposal.” That makes the starting action more concrete; it does not establish that the project will be finished or that the approach works for everyone.

As described by Tandi, BURST is a focused dashboard with goal and progress tracking, a next-mission concept, a dedicated Burst screen, a working countdown timer, start and end interactions, execution statistics, and a dark interface. Its current vertical slice is:

- Goal: Choose the broader outcome you want to move toward.
- Mission: Define a smaller, specific action related to that goal.
- Burst: Open a timed session for that mission.
- Action: Begin the work, then end the session through the interface.
The timer gives the session a boundary, while the mission describes what to attempt within it. The author links to a live demo in her DEV Community article, but its availability has not been confirmed here. The described workflow is therefore the clearest guide to what the prototype is intended to offer.
What is planned, not established as a current feature
Adaptive support
Tandi describes a future adaptive layer that could collect session outcomes and optional free-form reasons for saving a Burst, look for patterns, and try a different intervention when the same approach repeatedly fails to help. The idea is to ask, “What can we change to make the next action easier?” This is roadmap thinking: the article does not establish that BURST currently remembers outcomes, detects patterns, or selects a new strategy.

Business Coach
A second future concept, “Business Coach,” would help a founder decide what to learn by working through hypotheses and experiments. BURST’s proposed engine could then translate a learning goal into an immediate task—for example, finding potential users or drafting an interview question. This is a larger vision, not a verified feature of the current prototype.
Technology and challenge context
Tandi identifies React, TypeScript, and Vite as the prototype’s current technology stack. FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and open-source AI are described as intended additions to a broader architecture, not confirmed components in the current build. She says BURST was made for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend.

What the ADHD boundary means
Tandi notes that difficulty starting or sustaining focus can also accompany executive-function challenges, including those experienced by people with ADHD. She explicitly says BURST is not an ADHD diagnostic or treatment tool. The article presents no clinical evidence for BURST and does not support treating a timed task session as health guidance.

The prototype explores a different framing from a reminder alone: instead of only naming the outcome, it connects a goal to a specific next action and a bounded session. Its proposed adaptive layer would go further by changing the strategy after repeated postponement rather than assuming the person simply needs to try harder. Both are product ideas described by Tandi; the article supplies no comparative testing or outcome data showing that either approach is more effective.

Her framing question—“What should you do next — and what should change if that doesn’t work?”—captures the distinction between BURST’s current goal-to-session workflow and its future ambition to adapt. For now, the meaningful claim is limited: the prototype provides a structured way to turn a broad goal into a timed attempt at a smaller action.
