EcoFinder Busan is a student-described web map intended to help people find eco-friendly stores, zero-waste shops, and green spots in Busan, South Korea. Its stated setup combines Google Sites for the website with Google My Maps for location mapping. The project is inspired by the UN’s climate-action goal, but the available information describes its purpose and tools—not verified climate impact or measured user outcomes.

What is EcoFinder Busan?

In a project post dated September 22, 2026, the student author described EcoFinder Busan as a directory of local sustainable-living destinations shown on an interactive map. The intended listings include eco-friendly stores, zero-waste shops, and green spots. The author says the project uses Google Sites as its site architecture and Google My Maps to display locations.

The author also described collecting and curating local business listings and soliciting feedback through post-launch surveys. The available information does not establish how many places are listed, whether listings are current, or what survey respondents said. The live map’s contents and current availability have not been independently verified.

How does the project connect to UN SDG 13?

The United Nations names Goal 13 “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.” Its targets include strengthening resilience to climate-related hazards, integrating climate measures into policy and planning, and improving climate education, awareness, and capacity. The UN’s Goal 13 page provides the goal and its targets.

A local map that helps people discover sustainable shopping options can support awareness and make those options easier to find. That is a plausible contribution to climate education, not proof that the project has reduced emissions, changed shopping behavior, improved business revenue, or advanced a UN indicator. The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs reports that global temperature in 2025 was 1.43°C above pre-industrial levels; this is global context, not a Busan measurement or a result attributable to EcoFinder. UN DESA’s Goal 13 page reports the figure.

How could a student build a similar map?

The project author identifies Google Sites and Google My Maps as the tools used. The following workflow is a practical approach based on Google’s documented capabilities; it should not be read as a verified account of the student’s exact implementation.

  1. Set the scope and categories. Decide what qualifies as an eco-friendly store, zero-waste shop, or green spot. Use consistent names and criteria so people can understand what each category means.
  2. Create a map and add places. Google My Maps lets users create a map, search for places to add, or place markers. Check each location and its identifying information before publishing; the tool’s mapping features do not independently verify a listing’s sustainability claims.
  3. Organize the map with layers. Use layers to separate meaningful categories or make the map easier to navigate. Google documents a limit of up to 10,000 lines, shapes, or places per map and up to 2,000 per layer. These are product limits, not the number of listings in EcoFinder Busan.
  4. Build the site around the map. Google My Maps supports embedding on a website, which can make the map part of a broader project site. Google Sites is the platform the EcoFinder author says they used for the site.
  5. Choose who can view it. Google documents sharing a map by link or making it public, as well as embedding it on a website. Select settings that fit the intended audience, then check access from a visitor’s perspective. My Maps is used in a browser with a Google Account.
  6. Plan for upkeep and feedback. Set a process for checking whether locations remain open and details remain accurate. Invite feedback, but treat it as a way to identify possible corrections—not as evidence of user impact unless responses are analyzed and reported.

Google’s documentation covers adding places and working with layers in My Maps, including its map and layer limits, and sharing or embedding a map.

What is—and is not—established about the project?

The project description supports a clear account of EcoFinder’s intended purpose and stated technology stack. It does not independently confirm the map’s present-day contents or performance. In particular, the available information does not establish listing freshness, business consent, accessibility, language support, moderation procedures, survey results, or current site availability. Those details matter to anyone deciding whether to rely on the map or build a similar public directory.
