Build a Streamlit app that lets readers choose South American countries, select a World Bank indicator, set a year range, and inspect both a chart and its underlying observations. The example below uses the World Bank Indicators API v2 and defines its country scope explicitly; it does not treat the broader Latin America & Caribbean aggregate as South America.
What this dashboard will show
The app combines three selections—countries, indicator, and years—with a time-series chart and a table of returned observations. Each series should be identified by its indicator name and unit, with source context available to help readers interpret comparisons.

The World Bank says its Indicators API provides access to nearly 16,000 time-series indicators across more than 45 databases. API keys are no longer required. These are broad catalog figures, not a promise that every series covers every country or year. See the World Bank Indicators API overview.
Define the South America country scope
“South America” needs an explicit definition in an app: the World Bank country endpoint supplies country metadata, but the documentation cited here does not prescribe a dashboard roster. This example uses the following 12 sovereign countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela. French Guiana is not included because this list is limited to sovereign countries.

- Includes Raspberry Pi 5 with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (8GB RAM)
- Includes 128GB Micro SD Card pre-loaded with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS, USB MicroSD Card Reader
- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5
- CanaKit Low Noise Bearing System Fan
- Mega Heat Sink - Black Anodized
Use the World Bank country metadata to label selections consistently rather than relying on hand-entered display names. The endpoint can provide country names, ISO alpha-2 and alpha-3 codes, region, income level, lending type, capital city, and coordinates where available. Review the live metadata and maintain the intended roster explicitly if the app’s scope differs. See the country API documentation.
Request observations from API v2
Use the v2 observation path, which follows /v2/country/{country}/indicator/{indicator}. For example, a request for Brazil and the indicator code SP.POP.TOTL can be formed as:

https://api.worldbank.org/v2/country/BRA/indicator/SP.POP.TOTL?format=json&date=2000:2023&per_page=100
This is an example request shape, not a claim that the selected series has observations for every year in that interval. Check the response for the live series before presenting it. The World Bank documents JSON as an explicit format choice; without it, the default response is XML. API v1 was discontinued on June 19, 2020, so new integrations should use v2. See API basic call structures and the API overview.

- ELECROW Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5, CrowPi is equipped with a 9-inch HD touchscreen along with a camera; All the regular components used in DIY electronics are packed into the CrowPi development board, such as LCD, LED matrix, buzzer, light sensor, PIR sensor, ultrasonic sensor, IR sensor, etc
- Raspberry Pi Sensors: The Crowpi raspberry pi 5 programming kit is jam-packed with lots of buttons such as 19 different sensors in a tidy easy to use package; You don't have to wait and wire things
- Build Quality: Solid ABS shell and well made components in one place make it strong and convenient to travel
- Programming Lessons: This raspberry pi 5 learning kit ships with step by step instructions and provides 21 lessons to take you through identifying components reading code and running it in the terminal
The API supports date ranges, pagination, and a per_page parameter; its documented default page size is 50. Requests can include multiple indicator codes separated by semicolons, subject to documented URL and indicator limits. For a dashboard, requesting one selected indicator at a time is a straightforward way to keep the control choice and returned series aligned.
Load country and indicator metadata
Country names and indicator labels should come from API metadata where possible. Indicator metadata includes the code, name, unit, source ID, source note, source organization, and topic. Keep the unit beside the plotted series and retain the source organization and note in the app—such as in a caption or expandable details area—so users can distinguish series definitions and provenance. See the indicator API documentation.

- 256 GB PCIe Pi NVMe SSD (Pre-loaded with Pi 64-Bit OS)

Before shipping, verify the chosen indicator codes and labels against current API responses. Indicator availability and coverage can vary, and metadata should not be mistaken for evidence that a value exists for each country-year combination.

Streamlit documents selection controls, sliders, dataframes, and chart/display components. Together, these support a practical interface with country and indicator selectors, a year-range control, a chart, and inspectable observations. This component arrangement is an implementation recommendation based on documented capabilities, not a tested app.

- Choose countries. Use a multiselect or equivalent selection control populated from the defined country roster, with API country names as labels and ISO codes as request values.
- Choose an indicator. Populate a selector with validated indicator codes and human-readable names. Show the chosen series’ unit and source context near the results.
- Set the year window. Use a range control and pass its bounds as the API’s
dateparameter. Ensure the selected values are valid for the control and request. - Fetch the observations. Construct a v2 request for each selected country and indicator, explicitly request JSON, and account for pagination if the response exceeds the requested page size.
- Present both views. Plot year against the returned value for each country, then show the rows in a dataframe so users can inspect the observations behind the chart.
Streamlit’s documented controls and display options are listed in its API reference. The reference establishes available components; the exact layout and data-loading logic are choices for the app implementation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Make country comparisons interpretable
- Compare the same indicator and unit. Different indicators may measure different things or use different units; do not put unlike measures on one scale as if they were equivalent.
- Use a common time window where possible. The API accepts date ranges, but actual observations depend on the selected series and countries. Keep unavailable years visible as missing rather than implying complete coverage.
- Distinguish country values from aggregates. The World Bank documents aggregate queries, including
LCNfor Latin America & Caribbean. That is a broader regional grouping, not a South America-only total. See the aggregate API documentation. - Preserve source context. Retain the indicator’s source organization and source note alongside the chart or in accessible details.
Check the meaning of the displayed results
Before publishing or relying on the dashboard, inspect actual responses for the selected country-indicator pairs: confirm returned labels and units, note the years with values, and verify that the chart and table represent the same observations. The country set is an app decision, and the selected indicators’ live coverage is not established by the API’s general documentation. Label the scope and any missing years so readers can tell what the comparison includes.
