A reusable Bootstrap search bar starts with a search input, then adds a submit button or icon only when the interface benefits from it. The exact “Search Form/Bar V13” snippet could not be identified, so its markup, appearance, Bootstrap version, and behavior cannot be verified. The examples and guidance below describe established patterns you can adapt to your project.

Choose a search-bar pattern for its job

Search controls can sit on their own, appear with an adjacent icon, include a submit button, or live in a navbar. The right arrangement depends on where the search belongs and whether users need a clear submit action; decorative styling alone is not a reason to add controls.

Pattern Useful when Consider
Input alone Search is simple and submission behavior is clear in context. Give the field an accessible name and ensure the form submits in the way users expect.
Input with a button An explicit action such as “Search” makes submission clearer. Use a meaningful button label; an icon-only button needs an accessible name.
Input with an icon An icon helps visually identify the control. The icon does not replace the input’s accessible name.
Navbar search Search is a site-wide or section-wide navigation function. Place the form in the navbar layout and check that its controls remain usable at narrow widths.

MD Bootstrap documents examples of search inputs with buttons, icons, and without add-ons, as well as search forms arranged in a navbar: search examples and navbar search examples.

Give the search field an accessible name

Every search input needs a name that communicates its purpose to assistive technology. A visible label is usually the clearest option when the design allows it. If a visible label does not fit, provide a concise, descriptive programmatic name, such as aria-label="Search articles". Placeholder text alone is not a persistent label.

MDN notes that an unlabeled search input may not communicate its purpose to screen-reader users and recommends an appropriate label or descriptive accessible name: MDN: search input. Bootstrap 4.6 likewise identifies a label as the simplest way to provide an accessible name for a form control: Bootstrap 4.6 input groups.

Identify search as a landmark

Mark the search functionality as a search landmark so assistive-technology users can locate it. Use the native <search> element where supported by your project’s browser requirements, or apply role="search" to the form. MDN describes the ARIA search role as a landmark for search functionality: MDN: search role.

Check the Bootstrap version before adapting code

“V13” in the title does not establish which Bootstrap version a particular snippet uses. Before copying classes, check the version installed in your project and use documentation for that version. Bootstrap class names and component conventions can differ between releases; a snippet that looks plausible may still need adaptation.

Adapt and test the component

  1. Choose the placement. Decide whether the search belongs in the page content or inside a navbar.
  2. Choose the action. Use an input alone when the form’s submission behavior is clear, or add a submit button when an explicit action improves clarity.
  3. Name the field. Add a visible label where practical; otherwise provide a descriptive accessible name. Do not rely on a placeholder as the only label.
  4. Mark the landmark. Use <search> or role="search" for the search feature.
  5. Verify the implementation. Test keyboard operation, accessible names, form submission, and the layout at the widths your site supports.
