The best budget ink tank printer depends on what you print and which features you need—not just the price on the box. For an all-in-one with independent test measurements, consider the Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290; for a basic home all-in-one, compare HP’s Smart Tank options; and treat Epson’s ET-1910 as a candidate whose current price and model-specific details need checking. These five picks are not a head-to-head ranking: the available evidence does not establish a single best model for every buyer.
How to choose a budget ink tank printer
Tank printers replace disposable cartridges with refillable ink bottles. The larger initial purchase can make sense when you print regularly, but the value depends on your volume, ink use, and maintenance—not simply the advertised page yield. If a printer sits unused for long periods, inkjet ink can dry or clog; TechRadar advises considering print volume and ongoing maintenance when choosing a printer (TechRadar’s ink tank printer guidance).

Use current US prices for both the printer and its exact compatible ink bottles. Treat manufacturer yield figures as claims under stated test conditions, not a promise of the pages you will get from mixed documents, photos, setup, or maintenance. A test-derived ink cost is useful context, but it is not a guaranteed amount you will pay.

Five budget ink tank printers to consider
| Model | Best fit | What the evidence says | Main compromise or check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290 | Buyers who want an all-in-one and review-tested cost and speed figures | Tom’s Guide measured about 0.4 cents per text page and 0.9 cents per color page in its review; it also recorded 9.2 pages per minute for a five-page text document. | Those are review-specific measurements, not guaranteed costs or speeds. The review notes slower mixed-color duplex work and scanning tradeoffs. |
| Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3270 | Buyers comparing lower-cost Canon all-in-ones | It appeared as a budget alternative in TechRadar deal coverage dated October 2026. | That coverage’s promotion is time-sensitive; check current US price, availability, and exact model before buying. |
| HP Smart Tank 5003 | Home users who need print, scan, and copy | TechRadar’s October 2026 deal coverage describes those functions and a 100-sheet tray. | The coverage characterizes speed and paper capacity as modest. Its reported deal price is a temporary snapshot, not a regular price. |
| HP Smart Tank 5101 | Students and households seeking a straightforward print/scan/copy model | HP lists print, scan, and copy, up to 12 black pages per minute, and advertised in-box yields of 6,000 black and 6,000 color pages. | Yield and speed are manufacturer specifications; actual results vary with use. Confirm the current US price and included ink details. |
| Epson EcoTank ET-1910 | Buyers considering Epson’s announced lower-entry tank option | Epson announced it as its most affordable Supertank to date and described USB, Wi-Fi, Epson Smart Panel support, and keyed bottle refilling for the newly announced models. | The announcement does not establish a durable street price or independent test result. Verify the ET-1910’s own specifications and current US availability. |
Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3290: strongest test evidence in this shortlist
Tom’s Guide’s review offers the most specific independent measurements among these candidates. It reports roughly 0.4 cents per text page and 0.9 cents per color page under its testing methodology, plus 9.2 pages per minute for a five-page text document and 7.2 pages per minute for two-sided text. These figures help compare the G3290’s performance in that review; your results may differ with document coverage, print settings, and maintenance. The same review flags slower mixed-color duplex printing and scanning tradeoffs (Tom’s Guide’s Canon PIXMA G3290 review).
Canon MegaTank PIXMA G3270: check the live price
The G3270 is another budget all-in-one candidate, but the cited October 2026 TechRadar deal coverage is not evidence of a lasting price. Compare the live price with the G3290 and check the exact model, included ink, and warranty for the US listing before deciding (TechRadar’s G3270 deal coverage).

The 5003 is presented as a print/scan/copy option. TechRadar’s October 2026 coverage notes a 100-sheet tray and modest speed. Its reported promotion should not be treated as the printer’s ongoing price; confirm the current listing and whether the tray capacity suits your routine (TechRadar’s Smart Tank 5003 deal coverage).

HP’s comparison page lists the 5101 as a print/scan/copy model, with up to 12 black pages per minute and advertised in-box yields of 6,000 black and 6,000 color pages. Those are HP’s claims, not independent measurements or a guarantee for every household’s documents. Check the model-specific information and compatible bottle codes before comparing refill costs (HP Smart Tank model comparison).

Epson EcoTank ET-1910: an announcement is not a price comparison
Epson’s announcement positions the ET-1910 as its most affordable Supertank to date. It also describes USB, Wi-Fi, Epson Smart Panel support, and keyed bottle refilling for the newly announced models; verify the ET-1910’s own specification sheet rather than assuming every lineup feature applies. Epson’s announcement compares savings using US MSRP and replacement-bottle and standard-capacity-cartridge yields as of May 2026, which is Epson’s methodology—not an independent finding or a current street-price guarantee (Epson’s US newsroom).

- Print-only: HP Smart Tank 210 is a stripped-down alternative described by TechRadar. It lacks a scanner, automatic duplex, Ethernet, a paper drawer, and a touchscreen. Choose it only if those omissions fit your needs (TechRadar’s Smart Tank 210 review).
- Fax and multi-page scanning: HP says its Smart Tank 651 adds fax and a 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), useful when scanning several pages at once.
- Automatic duplex: HP lists automatic two-sided printing on the Smart Tank 6001. HP also describes it as faster in color than the 5101; treat that as the manufacturer’s comparison.
- Basic all-in-one use: The 5003 and 5101 cover printing, scanning, and copying, but check their paper handling and exact feature set against your workload.
The HP comparisons above come from HP’s own model guide, which also lists the 6001 and 651 with advertised in-box yields of 6,000 black and 8,000 color pages. These are HP figures for those exact models; do not apply them to the 5101 or another Smart Tank (HP Smart Tank model comparison).
When a tank printer may not save you money
If you print only a few pages occasionally, a tank printer’s higher upfront cost may not be offset by lower ink spending. Long idle periods also bring inkjet maintenance considerations, including the possibility of ink drying or clogging. Estimate your yearly pages realistically and consider how regularly you will use the printer before paying more for a tank system.
Quick Recap
Before you buy
- Check the current US purchase price rather than relying on an old promotion or announcement.
- Confirm the exact model number, functions, warranty, and compatible ink bottle codes for the US version.
- Compare the printer price plus likely replacement ink for your estimated annual pages.
- Read page-yield claims with their source and usage assumptions in mind; mixed printing and maintenance can change actual yield.
- Choose based on real needs such as scanning, fax, automatic duplex, tray capacity, and regularity of use.
