Buddy Punch is a cloud-based time and attendance system for employers managing hourly staff. It combines employee clock-ins with time-off, scheduling, reporting and payroll workflows. Its mix of mobile and shared-device punch options and payroll connections may fit teams that need flexible timekeeping, but the advertised per-user rate is not the whole cost: plans also have a monthly base fee, and some features or payroll cost extra.
This is a feature-and-fit review, not a hands-on test. Whether Buddy Punch is a good choice depends on your employee count, required punch methods, payroll connector and need for add-ons such as scheduling or real-time GPS.

What is Buddy Punch?
Buddy Punch is software for recording and managing employee time and attendance. Its published feature set covers employee punches, time off, job and location tracking, reports, alerts and mobile apps. Employers can use it to collect time records and prepare payroll, including through supported payroll integrations. Buddy Punch pricing and plan features and its feature overview describe the available workflows.
It is not a physical time clock bundled with the subscription. The product supports several ways to punch, with availability depending on plan: mobile, QR, PIN or kiosk, and Face ID are among the methods listed in the vendor’s plan materials. If you want a shared kiosk, the sources do not establish a required tablet model or confirm compatibility for a particular device; check current device requirements before buying hardware. Plan comparison and Buddy Punch help center provide details.

Budget for the full bill, not just the per-user rate
The monthly base fee means the displayed annual per-user rate alone does not show the subscription total. Payroll is listed as an optional $8 per user per month plus a $49 monthly base fee. The pricing page also lists possible add-ons such as scheduling, real-time GPS, onboarding/offboarding/tasks and data retention; check which are included in the chosen tier and which add cost. What are the pros of Buddy Punch?
It covers more than clock-in and clock-out
The vendor describes time-off management, job and location tracking, reports, alerts and mobile apps alongside punches. That broader workflow can be useful when an employer wants attendance records and related time information in one system rather than relying on a standalone punch clock. Buddy Punch features.
Employees have multiple punch options
Mobile punching can serve employees away from a shared office clock, while QR and PIN/kiosk methods can support a fixed or shared-device setup where included. Face ID is also listed in the plan materials. The right method depends on the workforce and the plan, so confirm availability and device requirements before rollout. It lists a broad set of payroll connections
The vendor’s integration list includes ADP RUN, ADP Workforce Now, Auris/Heartland, Deltek, Gusto, iSolved, Justworks, Paychex Flex, Paycor, Paylocity, QuickBooks Desktop and Online, Rippling, SurePayroll, TriNet Payroll, ViewPoint, Wagepoint and Workday. This gives buyers several possible routes into existing payroll systems, but the presence of a provider’s name does not guarantee the exact connector, fields or workflow you need. Ask Buddy Punch to confirm the integration and data mapping for your edition of the payroll product. Buddy Punch integrations.
Location controls distinguish punch records from live tracking
GPS coordinates associated with a punch are different from real-time GPS features. Buddy Punch says its real-time monitoring stops after an employee punches out. Employers considering location features should decide what they need to record and establish a workplace policy appropriate to their jurisdiction and practices. Buddy Punch GPS information.

The total cost can rise beyond the headline rate
The base fee, optional payroll charge and possible add-ons make the real total more than the per-user figure suggests. For small teams especially, calculate the bill at your actual headcount and required feature set before comparing plans.

Feature access is tier-dependent and descriptions are not perfectly consistent
Scheduling, kiosk punch methods, expanded reports, SSO and live GPS are not safe assumptions across all plans. Vendor plan pages use some differing labels and availability notes, so have the exact inclusions written into the quote or subscription terms.
Some users report practical friction
Visible Capterra reviews include comments about limits on advanced features, reporting customization, slow loading or difficulty clocking in with poor connectivity, and correcting missed punches. G2 reviews include reports that settings and features take time to learn. These are individual user reports, not measured rates of defects or a guarantee that another organization will encounter the same issues. Capterra reviews; G2 reviews.

Does Buddy Punch integrate with QuickBooks?
Yes. Buddy Punch lists both QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online among its payroll integrations. Confirm which version and workflow you use, what information transfers, and whether the connector supports your desired mapping before committing. An integration listing alone does not establish that every configuration is supported. Official integration list.
Which Buddy Punch plan is the best fit?
- Consider Starter if core time tracking, time off, job tracking, reports and mobile apps cover your needs, and you do not require plan-specific extras such as scheduling or kiosk methods.
- Consider Pro if you need scheduling or features such as offline mode, basic geofencing, QR or PIN/kiosk punching, subject to current availability and the vendor’s precise plan terms.
- Consider Advanced if expanded reporting, SSO, manager permissions, dedicated support or real-time GPS are important and confirmed in your quote.
These are fit guidelines based on the vendor’s published plan descriptions, not a guarantee that every listed feature is currently available in every account. Compare the complete price and verified entitlements against your actual workflows.
Quick Recap
How to evaluate Buddy Punch before subscribing
- Count the people who will use it. Request a quote using your expected employee count and clarify how billing treats seasonal, inactive or occasional users.
- Write down the punch scenarios. Specify whether staff punch from phones, a shared kiosk, QR codes, PINs or another supported method; confirm each method is included and check device requirements.
- Map your payroll workflow. Identify your exact payroll product and version, then ask what data transfers and what must still be handled manually.
- Separate location needs. Decide whether you need location data at punch events or live location features, and confirm plan availability and your workplace policy.
- Price the complete configuration. Include the user charges, base fee, payroll and any required add-ons; compare the result at your chosen billing cadence.
- Test exception handling in a demo or trial if offered. Walk through a missed punch, correction approval, poor-connectivity scenario, report export and payroll handoff rather than evaluating only the normal clock-in path.
