If you would rather edit slides visually than maintain source files, PowerPoint or Keynote may be a better fit.
How to choose a Slidev alternative
Start with four questions: Do you want to write slides in Markdown? Do you need Vue components or custom web behavior? Which export formats matter? Will other people need to edit the deck in a browser?

- Markdown and straightforward exports: Consider Marp.
- HTML, JavaScript, and plugins: Consider reveal.js.
- Browser-based visual editing and collaboration: Consider Slides.com.
- Conventional visual editing: Consider PowerPoint or Keynote.
Slidev itself remains a strong choice if you want Markdown combined with Vue components and web technologies. Its documentation positions it as a presentation tool for developers, with code-focused authoring and customization. The following comparison describes documented capabilities, not results from hands-on testing.

Marp: a strong fit for Markdown-first slides
Marp is the clearest alternative when you want to write presentation content in Markdown and avoid making Vue or JavaScript central to the workflow. Its official site documents conversion to HTML, PDF, and PowerPoint, along with built-in themes, CSS customization, a VS Code extension, and command-line tooling.

Marp separates slides with a horizontal ruler. For more control over how slides are rendered, Marpit—the underlying Markdown slide framework—supports directives, backgrounds, and CSS themes, and can produce static HTML and CSS. Its documentation also describes converting a page to PDF through printing.
Choose Marp when a direct Markdown workflow matters more than Vue components or extensive web-app behavior. The available documentation lists export formats, but does not quantify how faithfully a particular deck will carry over to each format; check your own layouts and fonts in the output you intend to use.

- The brilliant green laser pointer is powerful and easy to see, even on LCD and plasma displays and in brightly lit rooms.
- The LCD display with timer lets you manage your time with silent, vibrating alerts and controls that are easy to set and adjust–-you’ll focus on your presentation, not the clock.
- With a range of up to 100 feet (30 meters), you can enjoy the freedom to move around the room and mingle with your audience for greater impact. A reception-level indicator ensures you don’t wander too far.
- The intuitive slideshow controls help you navigate through your presentation with confidence. Buttons are easy to find by touch. The smooth contours feel great in your hand. You’ll be in control from the first slide to the last.
- A storable plug-and-play wireless receiver makes it simple to get started—just plug the receiver into a USB port and use it right away. There’s no software to install. When you’re through, the receiver stores inside the presenter to make packing up easy.
That flexibility can also mean more direct HTML and JavaScript work than a higher-level Markdown authoring workflow. Pick reveal.js when that control is useful to your deck, rather than assuming its broader web surface will make routine slide writing simpler.
Slides.com: a hosted visual editor built on reveal.js
Slides.com is not a separate open-source framework: its developer documentation says presentations are powered by reveal.js. It provides browser-based deck creation and editing, with options for HTML and CSS customization and downloadable reveal.js source.

These features make it a practical branch to consider when collaborators want a visual browser editor but you still value reveal.js foundations.
Choose Slides.com for the hosted editing experience and collaboration tools, not merely because it uses reveal.js. A hosted platform and a self-managed framework are different workflows, even when they share a technical foundation.

When PowerPoint or Keynote makes more sense
If you do not want to maintain Markdown, HTML, or other source files, a conventional visual slide editor may fit better. Slidev’s comparison characterizes PowerPoint and Keynote as feature-rich WYSIWYG tools that are intuitive for non-developers, while presenting Markdown, Git, code, and web customization as advantages for developer-oriented authoring.
That characterization comes from Slidev’s own comparison; the sources cited here do not independently assess the current feature sets of PowerPoint or Keynote. Treat them as familiar visual-editor options, and verify that the specific application you use supports your sharing and export needs.
Where Slidev still stands out
Slidev combines Markdown with Vue components and code capabilities. Its project documentation highlights web-based customization, themes and add-ons, Git version control, and code snippets as a first-class part of presentations. Its README lists PDF, PNG, and PPTX export and identifies Vue 3 as the technology behind its Markdown workflow.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Slidev’s comparison page also claims advantages such as concise extended Markdown authoring, Vue components, Vite-based hot module replacement, a plugin API, and UnoCSS availability. These are the project’s own comparisons, not independent test findings. Its README states a minimum Node.js version of 22.12.0; because runtime requirements can change, check the current installation guide before setting up a new project.
Make the choice by workflow, not by a universal ranking
- Choose Marp if Markdown is your preferred way to write slides and HTML, PDF, or PowerPoint output covers your needs.
- Choose reveal.js if you want to build on HTML and use JavaScript, plugins, or other web capabilities directly.
- Choose Slides.com if browser-based visual editing and collaboration matter more than managing a framework yourself.
- Choose PowerPoint or Keynote if you want a conventional visual editor rather than source-oriented authoring.
- Stay with Slidev if Vue integration, code, Markdown, and web customization are central to how you want to create presentations.
Before committing a deck, test the export and sharing path you actually need. The documented feature lists establish available options, not format fidelity for every presentation.
