A Windows stop error can involve hardware, a driver, or software. Start by recording the exact stop code and any “What failed” module; those details are more useful than reinstalling Zoom as a first guess. Microsoft explains Windows blue-screen errors, while ASUS lists troubleshooting steps for Windows BSODs.
What a Zoom-only crash does—and does not—tell you
A crash during a Zoom meeting establishes when the failure happens, not its root cause. Microsoft says a stop-code error may be caused by a hardware device, its driver, or software. ASUS also identifies Windows packages, hardware or software compatibility, hardware errors, and malware as possible factors. The available official guidance does not establish a known defect for a particular Zenbook model paired with a particular Zoom version.

Zoom’s camera and video troubleshooting advice is aimed at camera or video problems, such as freezing or detection issues. Those checks may help if the video feature is involved, but they do not explain or diagnose a Windows stop error. Zoom’s video guidance and camera guidance address those narrower symptoms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsRecord the evidence before changing settings
Photograph the blue screen or write down the exact stop code and any filename or module shown after “What failed.” Microsoft notes that these details can help identify what was executing when the error occurred. Also record your Zenbook model, Windows version and build, Zoom version, and any recent Windows, driver, BIOS, or application updates. Find the model through MyASUS or Windows system information before downloading model-specific updates.

Note whether the failure happens only with Zoom video enabled, with one particular camera, during a meeting, or when Zoom is closed. Record whether another camera-using application is open. Zoom recommends closing other programs that use the camera while troubleshooting video; these observations can help reproduce the problem, but none alone proves the cause.
Troubleshoot in an order that preserves useful clues
- Start with the stop code. Use the displayed code and “What failed” module to guide the next step. Avoid treating a generic Zoom reinstall as a fix for an unidentified Windows kernel crash. Microsoft’s stop-error guidance explains why the error details matter.
- Check Windows and ASUS updates for your exact model. ASUS recommends keeping BIOS, Windows packages, and drivers current. Use the support page for the specific Zenbook or the update functions in MyASUS. Do not install a BIOS intended for another model. ASUS’s BSOD guidance covers these update channels.
- Run MyASUS diagnostics if your device offers them. MyASUS may include System Diagnosis and a Blue screen error check, but feature availability varies by device. If a diagnostic reports a hardware error, ASUS advises contacting an ASUS repair center rather than guessing at a replacement part.
- Test without external peripherals. Shut down, disconnect external devices, and restart to see whether the behavior changes. ASUS recommends this check, and Microsoft includes removing newly added hardware among basic troubleshooting steps. If the crash stops, reconnect devices one at a time to help isolate a possible trigger. Microsoft’s unexpected-restart and stop-code guidance includes basic checks.
- Use Safe Mode if repeated crashes block diagnosis. Microsoft includes Safe Mode among basic BSOD troubleshooting steps. If crashes continue, keep the stop-code details and seek support for the exact Zenbook model rather than changing unrelated BIOS settings.
- Try Zoom’s camera checks only when the symptoms fit. If the camera freezes or is not detected, check Zoom’s selected camera and settings, close other camera-using programs, check camera permissions, and update Zoom and Windows. Zoom’s camera guidance also describes a clean reinstall. These steps target camera or video faults; they do not establish the cause of a blue screen.
When a reset becomes an option
A Windows reset belongs late in the process, after less disruptive checks. ASUS advises backing up personal files before resetting. Use a backup destination you can access independently of the Zenbook, such as an external drive, and confirm that important files are present before proceeding. A reset is a recovery step, not evidence that Zoom caused the crash.

When to escalate
Contact ASUS support or an ASUS repair center if MyASUS reports an error, the blue screens continue after the basic checks, or you cannot keep Windows running long enough to collect diagnostic information. Provide the model, Windows build, Zoom version, stop code, failed-module name, update history, and the conditions that reproduce the crash. That evidence gives support a more useful starting point than the timing alone.
