To get a callback when a Browshot screenshot job finishes, supply your receiver’s URL in the hook parameter when you create the screenshot. Browshot POSTs the JSON returned by /api/v1/screenshot/info when the job reaches finished or error. Have your endpoint return a 20X response promptly, and use the screenshot ID with screenshot/info as a polling fallback.
Configure the webhook on screenshot creation
- Make an HTTP endpoint available to receive Browshot requests.
- When calling
/api/v1/screenshot/create, include the targeturl, the requiredinstance_id, andhookset to your receiver URL. The Browshot API documentation describes the hook parameter and create request. - Accept an incoming POST at that URL and parse its JSON body.
- Return a 20X status promptly. Do any slow downstream work after acknowledging the request.
The callback is sent when the screenshot status becomes finished or error, and its body is the JSON data returned by /api/v1/screenshot/info. The documented statuses also include in_queue and processing; these are not the terminal statuses that trigger the hook.

Handle completion and failure safely
Branch on the callback’s status. On finished, continue with the screenshot information your application needs. On error, record or surface the failed job rather than treating the callback itself as a successful screenshot. The official documentation does not specify the complete JSON schema here, so avoid assuming fields beyond those documented for your integration.

Browshot says it may retry up to two times if the endpoint takes too long to respond or does not return a 20X status. It does not specify retry intervals or promise exactly-once delivery. Make callback processing idempotent—for example, track work by screenshot ID—so a repeated notification cannot trigger duplicate downstream actions. This is a defensive implementation choice based on the documented retry behavior.

Use polling as a fallback
If a callback is delayed or you did not observe it, call /api/v1/screenshot/info with the screenshot ID to check the job status. Browshot documents polling until the status is finished or error. The documentation gives no measured latency or reliability comparison between callbacks and polling, so choose based on whether you need a push notification or need to check a job on your own schedule.
Troubleshooting webhook delivery
- No callback arrives: Confirm the create request includes the correct reachable URL in
hook, then queryscreenshot/infousing the screenshot ID. The callback applies when the job reachesfinishedorerror. - Browshot repeats a callback: A slow response or non-20X status can lead to up to two retries. Acknowledge promptly and deduplicate processing by screenshot ID.
- The endpoint reports an error after work succeeds: Return a successful 20X promptly once the event is safely accepted; keep potentially lengthy processing out of the request-response path.
- The job appears to be ongoing:
in_queueandprocessingare nonterminal statuses. Check again withscreenshot/inforather than treating them as completion.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot through a single API request rather than managing a browser capture workflow, ScreenshotNeo returns a screenshot or PDF from a URL. For example, this cURL request saves a WebP screenshot:
