Browshot vs ScreenshotAPI.com: Features, Pricing, and Rendering Quality

Browshot offers configurable browser and private-infrastructure options; ScreenshotAPI.com publishes per-shot pricing and cleanup controls. Here is how to compare them fairly.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no evidence here to call either service the rendering-quality winner. Choose between Browshot and ScreenshotAPI.com based on the browser and infrastructure options you need, the way you want to pay, and the capture controls that fit your workflow. Browshot emphasizes configurable desktop and mobile browsers, geographic choices, and private capacity; ScreenshotAPI.com emphasizes shot-based pricing and removing page distractions. If you want a third option to evaluate first, ScreenshotNeo combines cleanup before capture with billing that excludes failed or blank results.

Which service should you choose?

  • Consider Browshot if you need its published desktop/mobile browser options, geographic IP choices, browser controls, or want to discuss private instances and servers for a high-volume or custom deployment.
  • Consider ScreenshotAPI.com if you prefer a published per-shot price or prepaid packs, and want controls to remove ads, cookie banners, or chat widgets.
  • Do not choose on claimed rendering quality alone. The vendors’ public pages describe capabilities, not a controlled comparison of how accurately each renders the same pages.

“ScreenshotAPI” in this comparison means ScreenshotAPI.com, not similarly named services such as screenshotapi.to or screenshotapi.net.

Feature comparison

Area Browshot ScreenshotAPI.com
Service model Hosted REST API with shared, premium, and private browser infrastructure. Hosted API with metered use and prepaid shot packs.
Browser and devices Browshot says it uses real desktop and mobile browsers, supports HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, and offers more than 30 virtual browsers across iOS, Android, and desktop. Its feature page describes mobile devices and custom private devices. Verify current device availability for your project. The reviewed product and pricing pages do not specify an equivalent device catalog. The pricing FAQ describes mobile resolution and browser-setting controls.
Capture and output Screen or full-page captures, plus thumbnails at a chosen size or ratio. API controls include delay, cache, selector targeting, headers, scripts, and optional rendered HTML. Product and pricing pages list PNG, JPEG/JPG, and GIF. The vendor describes controls to remove ads, banners, and widgets.
Geography and hosting Browshot lists Germany for the free tier; Germany, the USA, and Australia for premium; and Germany, the UK, the USA, Australia, and more for private servers or instances. Output can be hosted on S3 or by Browshot. The reviewed pages do not enumerate capture regions or output-hosting integrations. Ask the provider about requirements that matter to your deployment.
Integrations Official API documentation lists REST, language libraries, batch and crawl endpoints, callbacks, screenshot hosting, and controls including selectors, headers, scripts, and cookies. The product page shows JavaScript, Python, Java, and cURL examples.
Scale claims Browshot says private instances guarantee 10–100 simultaneous screenshots per browser and private servers can handle up to 10,000 requests per hour per server. Confirm capacity and service commitments with Browshot. The pricing FAQ says there is no daily call limit. The reviewed pages do not establish contractual throughput or an SLA; confirm production capacity and rate behavior with the provider.

These are vendor-published descriptions, not independently verified tests. Browshot’s feature claims and geography are on its features page; API controls are described in its API documentation. ScreenshotAPI.com’s cleanup, formats, and mobile-setting claims appear in its pricing FAQ and product page.

Pricing: credits versus shots

Browshot credits

Browshot’s feature page lists a premium desktop capture at 1 credit and a mobile capture at 2 credits. Its listed packs range from $1 for 10 credits to $1,000 for 300,000 credits. Because desktop and mobile captures consume different credits, the effective cost per image depends on the pack and capture type. The page mentions discounted monthly subscriptions by contacting Browshot, but does not publish those terms there. Private instances and servers are quote-based.

The pricing page says successful images count and failed captures are not billed. Its headline says the first 100 shots are free, while signup-link copy on that page says the first 1,000 shots are free. That discrepancy is unresolved in the published wording, so check the allowance shown in the account flow rather than assuming either figure.

How to compare the bills fairly

Estimate your monthly volume by desktop and mobile capture, then account for the features and infrastructure you actually need. Browshot’s credit cost varies by capture type, and private capacity is quote-based; ScreenshotAPI.com’s displayed packs charge by shot and state that failed captures are not billed. The public figures do not establish a universal price winner across equivalent settings, capacity, and failure handling.

Rendering quality: what the public evidence can and cannot tell you

The reviewed vendor pages do not establish which service renders pages more faithfully. Browshot’s statement that it uses real desktop and mobile browsers is a capability claim; ScreenshotAPI.com’s claims about high-resolution, uncompressed PNG/JPEG/GIF output do not prove more accurate layout, timing, font rendering, lazy loading, or consistency. No independent controlled comparison is established by these sources.

Run a matched test before committing

  1. Use the same representative URLs, viewport dimensions, device class, locale, browser language, wait strategy, and output format on both services.
  2. Include a JavaScript-heavy page, a page with lazy-loaded images, a long page, and a page with a cookie banner or overlay. Add authenticated pages only if your production workload requires them.
  3. Repeat each capture and record failures, completion time, missing assets, layout differences, text clipping, and variation between runs.
  4. Compare image dimensions and pixel differences only after matching viewport, scaling, and output format. Manually review differences that affect your use case.
  5. When sharing results, state the test date, service tier, exact settings, URL sample, and number of repetitions. A single informal capture is not a benchmark.

Which details matter most for your workload?

  • Mobile coverage: Browshot publishes a virtual-browser and device positioning, including a stated catalog of more than 30. ScreenshotAPI.com’s reviewed pages describe mobile settings but not an equivalent catalog. Confirm the exact devices and resolutions you need with each provider.
  • Geographic capture: Browshot names locations by tier; ScreenshotAPI.com’s reviewed pages do not enumerate regions. If geolocation affects the result, ask both providers about the capture location available to your account.
  • Cleanup: ScreenshotAPI.com advertises removal of ads, cookie banners, and widgets. Browshot’s listed capture controls include selectors and scripts, which may support a custom workflow, but that is not the same published cleanup claim.
  • Infrastructure: Browshot publishes private-instance and server capacity claims but requires contact for pricing. ScreenshotAPI.com’s public FAQ says no daily call limit, not a guaranteed throughput or SLA.
  • Failure cost: ScreenshotAPI.com says failed captures are not billed. Browshot’s cited feature page does not establish equivalent failure-billing terms, so ask before estimating costs where failures are frequent.
