BrowserSkill: Connecting AI Coding Agents to Your Logged-In Browser

BrowserSkill lets a compatible AI coding agent work in a visible window that uses your signed-in Chrome or Edge profile. Here is how the setup works, what it can reach, and where the security limits lie.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You connect an AI coding agent to your logged-in browser by installing BrowserSkill’s bsk command-line tool and daemon, adding its extension to Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Chromium 125 or later), and pointing a compatible agent at it. The agent can then work inside a visible Agent Window that uses your selected browser profile’s signed-in sessions, or inside one of your own tabs that you explicitly lend to it. That convenience comes with a trade-off: the agent inherits the authority of the profile it runs in, so the choice of profile and tasks matters as much as the setup.

How the pieces fit together

BrowserSkill is a local bridge with three parts. Each one has a distinct job, and most setup problems come from one of them being missing or mismatched.

  • The AI agent. You choose the agent and the model. The project’s README lists Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, Pi, and Hermes Agent among supported integrations, and separately describes a dedicated DeepSeek Harness plugin. The agent must be able to run shell commands, because it drives the browser through the CLI.
  • The bsk CLI and daemon. The CLI is the command the agent calls. The daemon runs locally and relays those commands to the browser. In remote mode, a server-side agent connects to your browser over an authenticated WSS connection instead.
  • The browser extension. It runs in Chrome or Microsoft Edge and performs page reads, simulated clicks and typing, screenshots, and selected-tab debugging when you start it.

Use the official README as the source for current install commands and menu labels. Those details change between releases, and this article does not reproduce them.

Setting it up

  1. Check your browser version. Open the browser’s About page and confirm it is Chrome or Microsoft Edge based on Chromium 125 or later. Other Chromium browsers may work, but the project does not guarantee compatibility.
  2. Confirm your operating system is supported. The CLI and daemon are documented for the platforms in the table below.
  3. Install the bsk CLI and daemon using the steps in the project’s README for your platform.
  4. Add the BrowserSkill extension from the Chrome Web Store listing into the browser profile you intend the agent to use. Choose this profile deliberately; it determines which logins the agent can reach.
  5. Connect your agent to the CLI using the integration your agent supports. Your agent’s own documentation governs its configuration.
  6. Start with a low-stakes task such as reading a public page or a document you own, and confirm the Agent Window opens and behaves as expected before you let the agent touch an account that matters.

What an agent can do with your logged-in browser

The project documents several everyday uses. They are most useful when the work depends on a session you already have open.

Reading logged-in documents and internal sites

An agent can open pages that only appear after you sign in, such as an internal wiki, a ticketing dashboard, or a document portal, and read their content. Because it uses your existing session, it does not need separate credentials for each site.

Completing web workflows

The agent can interact with page controls: clicking buttons, filling fields, and moving through multi-step forms. Each action happens in the Agent Window or in a tab you have lent to it, so you can watch the sequence and stop it.

  • The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.

Debugging websites with evidence

The debugging tools can tie an action to the requests it sent, the response bodies that came back, console messages, performance data, and page changes. This lets an agent reproduce a bug and report what the page actually did, rather than guessing from a screenshot. The same capability is what makes the privacy section below important.

File transfer depends on the mode

Capability Local mode Remote mode
Agent runs on your machine Yes No; a server-side agent connects to your browser
File upload Documented Unsupported
File download Documented Unsupported
Connection to the browser Local daemon Authenticated WSS

If your workflow needs files moved in or out of the browser, use local mode.

The Agent Window and borrowed tabs

BrowserSkill runs browser tasks in a separate, visible Agent Window rather than silently in the background. That makes the agent’s activity observable. For work that involves a tab you already have open, the tab must be borrowed explicitly, and it is returned to you when the task ends. Visibility helps you catch a wrong turn, but it does not limit what the agent can reach, which the next section covers.

Security and privacy: what the login state means

The project’s README states the core rule directly:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“An Agent Window shares the selected profile’s login state; it is not a separate account or security sandbox.” (Tencent/BrowserSkill project documentation)

In practice, an agent running in that window can act with the permissions of any site you are signed into in that profile. Treat the profile as the boundary you are granting, and keep sensitive accounts out of profiles you give to agents.

What the extension can access

According to the extension’s privacy policy, last updated September 30, 2026, the extension can read page content and simulate user input on pages it controls. When you start capture, it can also access debugging data from the selected tab. That data can include request and response contents, console messages, field values, and page context. The extension states that it does not run a mandatory cloud service, does not collect product telemetry, and does not call an AI provider on its own.

Where results go

Automation results are sent to the daemon or gateway you selected. From there, the receiving agent or service may process or retain them under its own policies. Before you use a remote service or a hosted agent, read that service’s data policy, since BrowserSkill’s own privacy statements do not govern it.

Redaction has limits

The extension filters known secrets from captured data. The README cautions, however, that redaction cannot guarantee all sensitive data is removed. Assume that a debugging capture may contain tokens, personal data, or form values you would not want in a log.

Untrusted page content and prompt injection

A public GitHub issue on the project repository reports that the project’s agent instructions lack explicit guidance about prompt injection from untrusted page content. The reporter argues that instructions embedded in a web page could steer an agent’s authenticated actions, and proposes adding a warning. The issue was listed under milestone 0.3.1 with no due date when reviewed on October 7, 2026. This is a concern raised by its reporter, not a demonstrated exploit, and no independent verification or fix had been established at that time. Until that is resolved, use the tool only on pages you trust, and keep it away from pages whose content you do not control.

Store listing figures

The Chrome Web Store listing showed version 0.3.2, updated September 30, 2026, and 40,000 users when accessed on October 7, 2026. The listing also showed 16 ratings. These are dated listing figures rather than a lasting measure of adoption. The store notes that ratings are updated daily and may not reflect the most recent reviews.

Is it the right tool for your task?

BrowserSkill fits work where the value comes from being signed in, the actions are visible, and the data flow is acceptable to you. It fits poorly where the work touches accounts with high stakes, pages you do not control, or data you cannot have logged.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Good fit: reading internal documentation you already access, reproducing a bug on a site you own, or running a repeatable workflow on a low-risk account.
  • Good fit with caution: tasks that touch a bank, payroll, cloud admin console, or source-control host. Use a dedicated profile with only the access the task requires.
  • Poor fit: browsing untrusted sites, handling secrets you cannot have captured in debugging output, or any situation where a shared profile is your only option and its logins are broader than the task.
  • Requires local mode: any task that needs file upload or download.
  • Check first: whether your browser and operating system match the compatibility table, and whether the agent you use is on the supported list.

If the task is safe to run under the permissions of one profile, BrowserSkill is a practical bridge. If it is not, the convenience is not worth the inherited access.
