1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a single, isolated screenshot, Browserless has a documented REST endpoint that explicitly supports full-page or viewport captures. Browserbase is organized around managed browser sessions for agent workflows. If your agent must navigate, interact with a page, and retain browser state, compare their session-based options rather than treating either service as only a screenshot endpoint. No cited head-to-head test establishes a winner for image fidelity, speed, or success rate.
Which service fits the screenshot you need?
Start with the shape of the job. A screenshot API can mean a one-off request that returns an image, or a browser session an agent controls over several steps. Those are different workflows, and the output details matter: a visible viewport is not the same as a full-page capture.
| Need | What the available documentation establishes | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| One-off screenshot | Browserless documents a REST /screenshot endpoint for full-page or viewport captures in PNG, JPEG, or WebP. Browserless REST screenshot documentation |
A clear fit to evaluate for isolated captures that do not need a continuing browser session. |
| Multi-step agent interaction | Browserless offers an MCP Browser Agent whose sessions are one-shot by default but can be retained across calls. Browserbase describes creating a managed browser session for an AI model to connect to, interpret pages, and act. Browserless Browser Agent; Browserbase | Compare session retention, control, and debugging for workflows involving navigation, consent dialogs, login, or retries. |
| Agent Run screenshot | Browserless Agent Run returns a visible-viewport PNG encoded as base64; it is not a URL or a full-page image. Browserless Agent Run API | Do not select this output if the requirement is a whole long page. |
| Browserbase screenshot specifics | The reviewed Browserbase material emphasizes sessions and agent workflows, but does not establish screenshot formats, full-page behavior, or delivery method. | Check its current SDK/API documentation for those details before implementing a capture pipeline. |
Screenshot scope and output
Browserless REST: explicit capture options
Browserless documents full-page and viewport capture, with PNG, JPEG, and WebP output. Its REST model launches a browser for each request, performs one task, and closes the session. That is straightforward for independent screenshots, but it is not the same as preserving a browser context across several agent decisions. See the screenshot endpoint documentation for current request parameters and response behavior.
Do not confuse Agent Run with the screenshot endpoint
Agent Run’s screenshot is specifically a viewport PNG encoded as base64. It is distinct from Browserless’s REST screenshot endpoint, which documents full-page captures and additional image formats. If the agent must capture the full document, select a workflow whose documentation expressly supports full-page output.

Browserbase: verify capture implementation details
Browserbase’s published product material describes managed sessions, live view, logs, and replay around agent workflows. The material reviewed here does not settle whether a particular Browserbase API or SDK returns a full-page image, which formats it supports, or whether the output is a file, URL, or encoded data. Confirm those requirements in its current documentation before designing around them.
State, deployment, and debugging
Session lifecycle and page state
Browserless REST requests are one task per launched browser session. Its MCP Browser Agent can retain a session across calls, although sessions are one-shot by default. Browserbase centers its workflow on managed browser sessions. For an agent that must accept a banner, navigate to another page, preserve authentication, or retry, validate exactly how cookies and other state persist, how a session is reused, and when it expires.
Deployment and data control
Browserless’s own comparison says it supports cloud and self-hosted deployment, while Browserbase is fully managed. Because this comparison is vendor-authored by Browserless’s founder, treat it as a lead for procurement questions, not a neutral assessment. Confirm current deployment choices, data handling, and operational responsibilities directly with each provider. Browserless’s comparison, updated August 18, 2026.

How to choose
- Evaluate Browserless REST first when you need isolated full-page or viewport captures and want documented PNG, JPEG, or WebP output.
- Evaluate a retained Browserless agent session or Browserbase when the task requires an agent to navigate and interact across steps. Compare session lifecycle, state persistence, integrations, observability, and deployment requirements.
- Verify Browserbase’s screenshot contract before relying on it for full-page output or a specific image format or delivery method; those details are not established by the cited product material here.
- Run a like-for-like test for your pages if fidelity, latency, reliability, or task completion determines the decision. Available sources do not establish independent comparative measurements for those outcomes.
