BrowserCat describes base-plan credits as billed at its lowest rate of $0.001 per credit. The Business allowance shown through a selector is dynamic, so the public listing does not establish one fixed included-credit quantity. Enterprise costs likewise cannot be forecast from public prices alone. The concurrency figure is the vendor’s published allowance, not a guarantee that a particular workload will avoid billing controls or request rejection.
How BrowserCat counts screenshot work
Utility API: successful request count
BrowserCat says each successful Utility API request costs one credit. Failed requests are not described as billable by this rule. A first-pass monthly estimate is therefore the expected count of successful API requests, compared with the plan’s included credits and applicable overage rate.

Websocket API: active session duration
Websocket usage is time-metered: one credit for every 30 seconds of activity, with any partial interval rounded up. BrowserCat’s example is a four-minute-twenty-second session billed as nine credits. A screenshot pipeline using a cloud browser session must account for time spent navigating, waiting for page readiness, interacting with the page, and capturing output—not just the resulting image count.
Build an estimate from workload data
- Separate Utility API calls from Websocket browser sessions; they use different meters.
- For Utility calls, count expected successful requests for a typical month and a peak month.
- For Websocket sessions, measure or estimate active duration per session, then round each session up to 30-second units before summing credits.
- Compare estimated credits with the current plan allowance and overage rate, accounting for one-time packs if you plan to buy them.
- Model variation rather than relying on an average alone: batch volume, retries, longer page loads, and seasonal demand can push actual use into a higher tier or overage.
Overages, credit packs, and spend limits
BrowserCat lists one-time credit packs at the prices above and says packs are consumed before overages. Confirm the account-specific interaction between a pack and recurring allowance before using that order in a committed cost forecast.

The vendor says monthly base fees are charged at the start of the month and overage is billed at month end. It also says an earlier charge can occur if overage fees exceed the plan’s base fee. BrowserCat describes a soft limit that defaults to the subscription amount and a hard limit that defaults to twice the subscription amount; for free plans, its stated defaults are $10 and $20. These are vendor-described defaults, and the account’s current controls should be checked before a production run.

If the hard limit is reached without approval, requests are rejected until the billing period ends or the increase is approved. This can interrupt a bulk job even when the pricing page lists high concurrency. Set monitoring and an approval path before launching a workload whose completion depends on uninterrupted captures.

What matters most for a high-volume workload
- Meter first: identify whether the workflow uses per-request Utility billing or time-based Websocket billing.
- Model peaks: calculate typical and high-usage months against the included credit amount and overage price.
- Check limits: the published concurrency number does not override spend-limit behavior or account-specific settings.
- Verify bulk-credit treatment: packs are listed as consumed before overages, but confirm the treatment for the account you will use.
- Request an Enterprise quote: the public information does not provide enough detail to calculate Enterprise pricing.
BrowserCat’s own rough plan-selection guidance is to choose the highest base plan that fits usage; it suggests a plan just above average monthly cost for consistent usage, and just below average monthly usage where usage varies dramatically. Treat that as the vendor’s general advice, not as an independent cost optimization result.
Running a screenshot through BrowserCat
BrowserCat’s quick start demonstrates a Playwright screenshot with a cloud browser connection at wss://api.browsercat.com/connect and an API key. The cloud sessions described in its browser configuration documentation currently run on Chromium; Chrome is also listed as available. Firefox and WebKit are described as roadmap items, not currently available options. The documentation says sessions run near the request and explicit region routing is on the roadmap, so verify browser and geography requirements before relying on a particular rendering environment.
