A blank BrowserCat screenshot can mean three different things: the page rendered but contains no visible content, the capture happened before client-side content appeared, or the screenshot targeted the wrong area. Identify which case you have before changing image settings. BrowserCat’s documented MCP tools can help inspect the page, capture a whole page or CSS-selected element, and check console logs or run JavaScript—but those MCP capabilities do not establish the direct REST API’s full parameter set.
First, identify what “blank” means
Open the returned file and check whether it is a valid image of an empty page, a transparent image, a tiny or misplaced crop, or an error response saved with an image filename. Retain the HTTP response status and content type as well as the file. The available BrowserCat API reference did not expose readable endpoint-schema details, so check its current API documentation rather than assuming a particular status code, response format, or request parameter.

These distinctions point to different fixes: content that never rendered calls for page or access diagnostics; content that appeared too late calls for a readiness strategy; and a crop that misses the content calls for checking capture scope and dimensions.
Check that the page works outside the capture
Open the exact URL in a regular browser, using the same authentication state if the page requires a login. Confirm that the expected content is visible. If the page is blank there too, or displays an access challenge, fix the page or access problem first; screenshot dimensions will not make missing page content appear.
#1 Best Overall
If the page works for a person but the automated browser receives a challenge, 403 page, or empty content, investigate the target site’s access rules and session requirements. Browserless lists blank or white screenshots among possible signs of automation blocking, alongside CAPTCHA and access-denied symptoms. That is a general diagnostic possibility—not evidence that BrowserCat is blocked in your case. Do not assume that changing a user-agent string will bypass the site’s protections.
Check whether client-side content has finished rendering
On a JavaScript-heavy page or single-page application (SPA), the initial document can load before the page fetches data and inserts visible content. Cloudflare’s Browser Run screenshot documentation says that, for JavaScript-heavy pages or SPAs, default page-load behavior may return empty or incomplete results. This describes Cloudflare Browser Run, not a confirmed BrowserCat behavior, but it illustrates why a capture may need to wait for a meaningful content-ready signal.

Prefer waiting for a stable, visible content marker over adding an arbitrary long delay. If a page keeps network requests open, a specific selector may be a more useful readiness signal than waiting for all network activity to stop. Cloudflare documents network-idle and selector-based waits for its own service; its API reference also describes waitForSelector and waitForTimeout. These are not verified BrowserCat parameter names. Check BrowserCat’s current endpoint documentation before using any wait option in a direct API request.

BrowserCat’s MCP repository documents screenshot capture for a whole page or a CSS-selected element, with optional width and height. If you use that MCP integration, compare a whole-page capture with a selector that you have confirmed matches visible content. A selector that points to the wrong element—or to a container that exists before it has content—can produce an unhelpful capture. The repository documents selector capture, but does not specifically document that failure mode.
Rank #3
The same MCP integration documents browser console logs and JavaScript evaluation. Use those tools to look for uncaught client-side errors, failed requests, or code that never inserts the expected content. These are MCP diagnostics; they do not establish that BrowserCat’s direct REST API returns console logs or supports JavaScript evaluation.
Adjust image settings only after the content is present
Optional width and height in BrowserCat’s documented MCP capture can help when content is present but cropped or poorly framed. First verify that the page rendered and that the capture includes the region you expect; viewport dimensions and image format are lower-priority checks for a literally blank page. The direct BrowserCat endpoint’s exact setting names and supported options are not established here, so consult its live API reference before changing a request body.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The saved “image” will not open or looks like text | Response status and content type; inspect the response body | Determine whether the server returned an error rather than an image. Do not infer BrowserCat-specific status rules without its current API documentation. |
| A valid image shows an empty page | Open the same URL in a regular browser and check for a challenge or access-denied page | Resolve page availability, authentication, or site access restrictions before changing image settings. |
| The page appears in a browser but not in the capture | Check whether content is inserted after client-side scripts or data requests finish | Use a content-ready selector or another documented wait strategy where the chosen service supports it. Verify BrowserCat’s current parameter names before using them. |
| Only a small or irrelevant region appears | Compare whole-page and selected-element captures; verify the selector and viewport | Correct the scope or dimensions. BrowserCat’s cited selector and dimension capabilities apply to its MCP integration. |
| The page is visible to a person but automated capture shows a challenge | Check required session state and the target site’s automation rules | Address permitted access and authentication requirements; do not treat a user-agent change as a guaranteed bypass. |
| Content is still missing and the console shows errors | Look for uncaught errors or failed requests in the browser console | Fix the page’s runtime or request problem. BrowserCat’s MCP repository documents console-log inspection, not direct API log output. |
Or skip the browser setup: use ScreenshotNeo
If you want a screenshot without setting up your own browser workflow, ScreenshotNeo provides a one-request screenshot API. Its API returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output. For example, this cURL request captures Stripe:

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status. Frequently Asked Questions
Does BrowserCat document a direct API wait-for-selector parameter?
The accessible BrowserCat API schema did not establish direct endpoint parameter names. Check the current BrowserCat API reference before using a wait option.
Do BrowserCat’s MCP console tools prove the REST API returns browser logs?
No. Console-log inspection and JavaScript evaluation are documented for BrowserCat’s MCP integration, not established here as direct REST API features.
