The Brother MFC-J4355DW is a wireless color inkjet all-in-one for home and small-office use. It prints, copies, scans, and faxes, with automatic two-sided printing, a 20-sheet document feeder, and a 150-sheet paper tray. Its listed features suit everyday document workflows, but Brother’s specifications alone cannot establish its real-world speed, print quality, ink cost, or long-term reliability.
What the Brother MFC-J4355DW offers
Brother positions this model as a multifunction printer for home and small-office tasks. It combines printing, copying, scanning, and faxing, and includes a 1.8-inch color display. For connecting devices, Brother lists dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, and mobile printing through the Brother Mobile Connect app. It also supports Windows, macOS, and Linux on its product page; check the current Brother product page and model support resources for compatibility with your specific operating-system version.

|---|---|---|
| Paper tray | 150 sheets | A modest capacity for routine home or small-office printing; frequent larger jobs may require reloading. |
| Automatic document feeder | 20 sheets, single-sided | Useful for scanning or copying short stacks of originals. It is not a duplex ADF, so two-sided originals need extra handling. |
| Manual feed | One sheet | Allows feeding one sheet at a time outside the main tray. |
| Duplex printing | Automatic, up to Letter size per Brother’s specification sheet | Can print both sides of supported paper without manually turning pages. |
Brother lists simplex maximum speeds of up to 20 pages per minute in black and 19 pages per minute in color, maximum resolution of 1,200 × 4,800 dpi, and first-page-out times of approximately 5.8 seconds in black and 5.9 seconds in color. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results; actual output depends on the document, settings, connection, and other conditions. Brother’s product page and advance specification sheet provide the listed figures.

Is it a good fit for a home office?
It is a plausible fit if your work involves a mix of ordinary printing, occasional copying and scanning, and faxing, and if the 150-sheet tray and 20-sheet single-sided ADF match your job sizes. Automatic duplex printing can reduce manual page handling for two-sided documents. The fax function may matter in offices that still need to send or receive faxes; it adds little value if that is not part of your workflow.
Think carefully about volume and document handling before buying. Brother recommends a monthly print volume of 200 to 2,000 pages and lists a maximum monthly duty cycle of up to 30,000 pages. The recommendation and maximum are manufacturer ratings, not guarantees of practical lifespan, economical operation, or suitability for sustained high-volume work. A single-sided ADF also means this model is less convenient for batches of two-sided originals than a printer with a duplexing document feeder.

Which ink does it use, and what do the yield figures mean?
The MFC-J4355DW uses Brother LC506 genuine ink cartridges. Brother lists starter cartridges in the box with stated yields of 1,800 pages for black and 750 pages each for cyan, magenta, and yellow. These are Brother’s page-yield figures, not a promise that every user will get those totals. Coverage, print settings, maintenance, and the kinds of documents printed affect actual consumption. Brother recommends genuine cartridges; check its current product information and support site for consumable details and current compatibility.

- AFFORDABLE ALL-IN-ONE FOR HOME AND HOME OFFICE: Print, copy, and scan on one compact wireless printer designed for everyday home office printing, schoolwork, documents, and reports. Produce beautiful prints for results that stand out.
- EASY TO USE WITH CLOUD APP CONNECTIONS: Print from and scan to popular Cloud apps(2), including Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, and more from the simple-to-use 1.8” color display on your printer.
- FULL-SIZE FEATURES IN A COMPACT DESIGN: This printer includes automatic duplex (2-sided) printing, a 20-sheet single-sided Automatic Document Feeder (ADF)(3), and a 150-sheet paper tray(3). Engineered to print at fast speeds of up to 16 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 9 ppm in color(4).
- MULTIPLE CONNECTION OPTIONS: Connect your way. Interface with your printer on your wireless network or via USB.
- MOBILE PRINTING MADE EASY: Go mobile with the Brother Mobile Connect app(5) that delivers easy onscreen menu navigation for printing, copying, scanning, and device management from your mobile device. Monitor your ink usage with Page Gauge to help ensure you don’t run out(6).
There is an important first-use qualification: Brother says the initial cartridge installation uses extra ink once to fill the ink delivery tubes. Setup also includes an initial ink-system cleaning. Brother does not quantify the extra amount in the setup instructions, so the stated starter yields should not be treated as a precise prediction of pages available immediately after unboxing.
The available manufacturer information does not establish a dependable cost per page or how the printer’s ink expense compares with alternatives. To estimate ownership cost for your own workload, check current LC506 prices and use your expected mix of black-and-white and color pages; do not assume the stated yields translate directly into your results.

What this review can and cannot establish
Brother’s published materials document the printer’s functions, capacities, cartridge type, rated yields, and manufacturer speed figures. They do not establish independently measured print speed, photo quality, scan throughput, operating cost, or reliability over time. If your decision depends on those qualities, look for evidence based on the specific documents and workloads you expect to print, rather than treating rated specifications as test results.
When comparing it with another printer, focus on the details that change your day-to-day use: monthly volume, current ink prices, document and photo quality, measured speed, ADF capacity and duplex capability, paper capacity, fax needs, connectivity, footprint, warranty, and total ownership cost. The MFC-J4355DW’s documented features answer some of those questions, but not the cost and performance ones.
