Broadcom’s CEO says the company has a line of sight to $230 billion in AI semiconductor revenue in fiscal 2028, but that is a forward-looking outlook—not revenue already earned or a guarantee of future results. The projection makes Broadcom’s growth story compelling; it does not, on its own, establish that AVGO is a “screaming buy.” Investors still need to weigh execution, customer and supply risks, cash generation, debt, and the share price they would pay.
What Broadcom’s fiscal 2028 projection says
On an earnings call, Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan said: “We have line of sight for fiscal 2028 AI semiconductor revenue growth to again double to $230 billion.” He also said Broadcom had secured supply to approximately double AI revenue to $115 billion in fiscal 2027, that demand exceeded the 2027 outlook, and that supply had been secured for the 2028 outlook as well. The Motley Fool’s September 3 report attributes these remarks to Tan.

These are management expectations about future AI semiconductor revenue, not reported sales, a binding customer commitment, or proof that customers will deploy capacity on schedule. Securing supply addresses one part of the plan; it does not ensure customers have data centers ready, including the necessary power and land, or that purchases are recognized as revenue on the expected timetable.

What recent results do—and do not—confirm
Broadcom reported $16.7 billion in AI semiconductor revenue in Q3 FY2026, up 221% year over year. For Q4 FY2026, it guided to approximately $34.8 billion in total company revenue, up 93% year over year. The Q4 figure is guidance, not reported revenue. Broadcom’s Q3 FY2026 release provides the results and guidance.

- NVIDIA Volta GV100 Architecture — 4,608 CUDA Cores, 640 1st-Gen Tensor Cores delivering 14 TFLOPS FP32 and 112 TFLOPS deep learning performance for AI training, inference, HPC, and scientific computing workloads
- 32GB HBM2 ECC Memory — 900 GB/s Bandwidth — High-bandwidth memory on a 4096-bit bus with ECC error correction provides the memory capacity and throughput required for the largest AI models, simulations, and datasets
- PCIe 3.0 x16 Interface — 250W TDP — Standard PCIe Gen3 connectivity with passive cooling designed for enterprise rack server deployment in HPE ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge, and Supermicro platforms with adequate chassis airflow
- NVLink — Scale to 96GB Unified Memory — Connect two V100 GPUs via NVLink at 300 GB/s bi-directional bandwidth to scale GPU memory from 32GB to 96GB for larger AI training and HPC workloads
- Multi-Precision Computing — Supports FP64 (7 TFLOPS), FP32 (14 TFLOPS), FP16 (112 TFLOPS) and INT8 precision modes for flexible deployment across training, inference, and scientific simulation workloads
The reported AI growth and strong near-term total-revenue guidance support the view that Broadcom’s AI business is expanding rapidly. They do not establish that the much larger fiscal 2028 outlook will be achieved: one quarter’s AI revenue is not a track record of delivering the 2027 and 2028 targets, and the outlook is not an independently validated consensus forecast.
Why the outlook could support a bullish case
The bullish thesis is that investors may not yet have fully priced in the scale of Broadcom’s projected AI growth. If AI sales convert into revenue and profits along the expected path, that growth could support a higher share price. But this is an investment thesis built on future results and valuation assumptions, not a company statement that the stock is undervalued or a settled estimate of fair value. The Motley Fool’s October 4 article presents that bullish interpretation.

- Delivers 25 TFLOPS of AI inference performance using four MemryX MX3 accelerators in a compact M.2 2280 M-key module.
- Connects through PCI Express Gen 3 and above for straightforward integration into embedded and edge systems with an M.2 M-key slot.
- Includes 42 MB of distributed on-chip weight storage to support low-latency, batch-1 pipelined inference.
- Designed for low-power deployment with a 1 W–12 W operating range and host-managed airflow requirements.
- Supports ONNX, TensorFlow, Keras, and TFLite models through the MemryX software stack on Linux and Windows hosts.
Broadcom Inc. trades on Nasdaq under the ticker AVGO, as identified in its FY2025 Form 10-K. The company’s outlook alone cannot tell an investor what AVGO is worth: that judgment depends in part on the earnings forecast used and the price paid for them.

Broadcom’s disclosures identify business risks that can affect the forecast, profitability, cash generation, and valuation. Its Q3 FY2026 release discusses risks including:
Rank #3
- ✅Powered by 26 Tera-Operations Per Second (TOPS) Hailo-8 AI Processor. 2.5W typical power consumption
- ✅Scalable, enabling simultaneous processing of multi-streams & multi-models
- ✅Enabling real-time, low latency and high-efficiency AI inferencing on the edge devices
- ✅Supports TensorFlow, TensorFlow Lite, ONNX, Keras, Pytorch frameworks
- ✅Supports Linux and Windows. Supports the temperature range of -40°C to 85°C
- Loss of significant customers, or changes in the timing and volume of customer orders.
- Semiconductor cyclicality, which can make demand and results uneven.
- Dependence on contract manufacturing and a limited number of suppliers, alongside the challenge of estimating demand and matching it with capacity.
- Pressure on gross margin, which could limit how much revenue growth contributes to profit.
- Significant indebtedness and the need to meet debt-service obligations, which matter when assessing cash available to shareholders.
The gap between supply availability and recognized revenue is especially important. Even if Broadcom has secured capacity, delays in customer deployment or order timing could change when revenue arrives. Investors should track actual reported results rather than treating capacity secured or an outlook as sales already delivered.

Rather than treating “screaming buy” as a conclusion established by the projection, use the outlook as a set of claims to monitor. Relevant evidence includes:
Rank #4
- 48GB AI graphics accelerator
- Progress against the forecast path: Compare reported quarterly AI revenue with management’s stated outlook, while distinguishing actual results from guidance.
- Customer durability: Watch for signs that orders remain resilient and that reliance on significant customers is not undermining the growth path.
- Supply and deployment: Assess whether manufacturing capacity and supplier availability translate into customers deploying the infrastructure and placing orders on schedule.
- Profit and cash conversion: Look beyond revenue to margins, free-cash-flow conversion, and the demands of debt service.
- Valuation at the price paid: Compare the share price with a clearly dated earnings forecast and its assumptions. The outlook does not supply an intrinsic value or tell every investor what multiple is reasonable.
The evidence here does not settle Broadcom’s intrinsic value or establish a complete ranking against peers. Whether AVGO suits an investor also depends on that person’s risk tolerance, time horizon, and portfolio; the same growth outlook can support different decisions at different prices.
