CHOICE currently labels the Breville Silhouette Flatbed Microwave LMO428BLK discontinued. Its public listing does not reveal the expert rating or cooking-test scores, and a retailer product page by itself does not confirm that the microwave is in stock. The available specifications describe a 28-litre, 1000W countertop microwave with a flatbed cavity and no turntable; this is a feature-and-specification review, not a hands-on performance test.
What is the Breville Silhouette Flatbed LMO428BLK?
Breville calls the appliance the Silhouette Flatbed. The Australian and New Zealand manual identifies it as model LMO428BLKANZ, while CHOICE and Target use the retail-facing model number LMO428BLK. It is a countertop microwave with a flat floor instead of a rotating glass turntable.

That layout removes the turntable as a constraint, but it does not establish what size dish will fit. Check a dish against the stated cavity measurements—220 × 354 × 358 mm (H × W × D)—and account for its handles and shape, rather than relying on the 28-litre capacity alone.
Specifications and dimensions
Breville’s manual is the primary source for the specifications below. Its exterior dimensions are slightly different from CHOICE’s displayed measurements; Target’s dimensions align with the manual once their order is converted to height × width × depth.

The CHOICE dimensions differ slightly from Breville’s manual. For planning a countertop space, use the manual’s exact-model dimensions and leave the additional ventilation clearances described below.
How do the controls and automatic programs work?
The manual documents eight automatic cooking menus, ten microwave power levels, defrosting by time or weight, a 12/24-hour clock, a child lock and a +30-second start function. For an automatic menu, select the program and the quantity or weight as directed; the microwave then chooses a time and power setting.

Breville cautions that automatic results can vary with the food’s size and shape, where it is placed, the supply voltage and the doneness you prefer. Use the manual’s menu guide for the full program instructions and quantities. For example, its pasta instructions call for boiling water before cooking. These controls offer preset options, not a guarantee that every food will finish as expected.

What does the flatbed design mean in practice?
Without a turntable, dishes sit directly on the cavity floor and are not limited by the turntable’s circular footprint. That may suit some differently shaped dishes, but the cavity measurements—not the nominal capacity—are the useful check before buying. Breville’s specifications do not establish a maximum dish size or prove that every large or rectangular dish will heat evenly.

Target describes the microwave as having 60% more usable cooking area than a standard 34-litre microwave. That is a retailer comparison claim, not an independently established measurement in the available product information. Claims of easier cleaning or greater usable area should likewise be treated as design or retailer claims rather than verified test results.
Does it fit a compact kitchen?
The appliance needs more open space than its 539 × 409 mm countertop footprint suggests. Breville specifies at least 20 cm of clearance on each side and 30 cm above, along with a level surface and unobstructed airflow at the vents. The manual says not to place the microwave in a cabinet and warns that blocked vents can damage it.

CHOICE also lists vents on the left and rear. When choosing a location, make sure those sides and the space above can remain clear; a cabinet or tight alcove is not an appropriate installation location under the manual’s instructions.

Is the Breville LMO428BLK any good?
The public evidence supports a description of its specifications and controls, not a verdict on cooking performance. CHOICE’s public exact-model page lists selected features and identifies the model as discontinued, but its expert rating, recommendation and cooking sub-scores are member-only. It would be misleading to infer a positive or negative test result from the public listing.

No hands-on test is represented here. If independent cooking performance is decisive, look for access to CHOICE’s full results rather than treating the public specifications or retailer description as a substitute for them.
Is the LMO428BLK discontinued, and is it available in Australia?
CHOICE labels the model “Discontinued model” on its product page, accessed in 2026. That indicates its status in CHOICE’s listing; it does not establish whether a particular Australian retailer still has remaining stock.
Target has an exact-model product listing, but asks customers to select a delivery or store location to check availability. A listing is not confirmation of stock in your area. CHOICE displays A$229, but that is the price shown on its page, not a verified current transaction price or a universal offer. The opened Target information does not establish that price.
Warranty information
Target’s listing states a one-year replacement warranty. Treat that as the retailer’s product-page statement and check the warranty information supplied with the specific unit before purchase. Breville’s Australian warranty page says covered defects may be repaired or replaced at Breville’s discretion during the applicable warranty period, subject to exclusions and the country-of-purchase limitation. Care and safety directions
Breville says the microwave is intended for heating food and beverages. Its manual warns against using it to dry food or clothing or to heat warming pads, slippers, sponges, damp cloths and similar items because of injury, ignition or fire risks.
