The Breville Multi Chef BRC600 combines rice cooking, steaming, risotto, sautéing and slow cooking in one appliance. Its published capacities are 10 cups for rice and 3.7 L for slow cooking—different measures for different uses. It may suit households wanting several cooking functions in one unit, but its non-stick bowl needs careful cleaning, and owner reports raise concerns about bowl wear and reliability without establishing how common those problems are.
What the BRC600 does
Breville Australia lists the current product as model BRC600BSS, a multi-cooker with settings for rice, steam, risotto, sauté, and low- or high-temperature slow cooking. It also switches automatically to keep warm after some cooking programs. The Australian listing specifies 760 W and 220–240 V, so check the model and electrical configuration for your region rather than assuming those details apply to every variant. Breville Australia’s product page gives dimensions of 31.9 × 29.5 × 26.9 cm and lists a one-year replacement warranty for that listing.

The removable non-stick cooking bowl has cool-touch handles. Other components include a tempered-glass lid with a steam vent, detachable power cord and stainless-steel steaming tray. The Australian listing also includes a measuring cup and serving spoon. The BRC600 manual identifies the rice scoop, serving spoon and steaming tray as supplied accessories.

How much can it cook?
Breville gives two capacity figures: 10 cups for rice and 3.7 L for slow cooking. They describe different uses and should not be treated as equivalent measurements. The manual says the cooker’s 10-scoop maximum can yield up to 20 scoops of cooked rice; this is expressed in the appliance’s own scoop measure, not standard metric cups.

The supplied scoop is not a standard metric measuring cup: one scoop is 150 g of uncooked rice and 180 ml of water. The manual’s starting ratios are one scoop of water per scoop of white rice, and one-and-a-half scoops of water per scoop of brown rice. Do not exceed the bowl’s ten-scoop maximum line.
Using rice, steam and slow-cook settings
Rice
Spread rice evenly in the bowl and keep the lid in place while it cooks. After cooking, the manual advises allowing rice to stand for 10–15 minutes after turning it over. Rice programs change automatically to keep warm for up to five hours before the cooker switches off.

Steaming and slow cooking
The steaming tray is intended for foods including vegetables, seafood and poultry. For low- or high-temperature slow cooking, keep liquid between the bowl’s MIN and MAX marks. These functions make the BRC600 more versatile than a rice-only appliance, although the available material does not establish how its cooking performance compares with dedicated cookers.

The cooker has both risotto and sauté settings. The manual specifies a keep-warm period of up to 30 minutes for risotto, rather than the longer rice and slow-cook keep-warm cycle.

Cleaning and protecting the bowl
Breville does not recommend putting the removable bowl, steaming tray or glass lid in a dishwasher. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel wool and metal scouring pads, which can damage the non-stick surface. The manual advises using wooden or plastic utensils to reduce scratching; it states, “To prevent scratching the non-stick surface of the removable cooking bowl, always use wooden or plastic utensils.”
Use heat-protective gloves when handling hot components, and position the lid’s steam vent away from yourself. These precautions matter when removing the lid or steaming tray during or just after cooking.

Visible owner comments include reports of non-stick bowl wear, units stopping or failing, and positive accounts of useful cooking performance. Can you replace the inner pot?
Breville Australia lists a replacement Pot Inner among the BRC600 parts, along with a steam tray and other components. That establishes that the manufacturer lists these parts, but not that a particular item is currently in stock or fits every regional variant. Check the model number and confirm compatibility and availability with Breville before ordering. The same caution applies if you need a replacement tray or another listed accessory.
Who should consider the BRC600?
The BRC600 is worth considering if you want rice, steaming, risotto, sautéing and two slow-cook settings in one appliance, and are comfortable caring for a non-stick bowl by hand. It is a less certain choice if dishwasher-safe removable parts or documented, independently accessible performance testing are priorities. The public owner comments make bowl wear and reliability sensible questions to weigh, but they are not enough to conclude that these problems are widespread.
