Rosatom announced the installation on 7 October 2026. The plant is still under construction, so the milestone is a step in building the power unit, not a sign that it is running.
What was installed
Rosatom’s announcement of 7 October 2026 reports the following figures for the equipment. World Nuclear News repeated the installation in its coverage the same day.

Rosatom describes the equipment as large heat-exchange apparatus used at two-circuit nuclear power plants. In its announcement, the company explains the job in one sentence, which is reproduced here in Russian as published: «Его основная задача — подготовка пара для цилиндра низкого давления турбины. Это необходимо для защиты лопаточного аппарата турбины от эрозии каплями воды и для повышения коэффициента полезного действия всей паротурбинной установки.» In English, that means the main task is preparing steam for the turbine’s low-pressure cylinder, which protects the turbine blading from erosion by water droplets and raises the efficiency of the whole steam-turbine plant. The announcement does not attribute this explanation to a named person, so it should be read as Rosatom’s corporate statement.

The name combines two functions that are standard in steam power engineering. A separator removes liquid droplets from wet steam. A superheater raises the steam’s temperature above its saturation point. Doing both before steam reaches the low-pressure stage is the general purpose of such equipment. Rosatom’s statement covers the purpose at BREST-OD-300; it does not publish the internal design or operating parameters of these particular units.
What BREST-OD-300 is
BREST-OD-300 is being built in Seversk, Tomsk Region, at the site of the Siberian Chemical Combine. Rosatom describes it as the power unit of its Pilot-Demonstration Energy Complex, which is part of the company’s Proryv (Breakthrough) strategic project. The wider initiative is aimed at nuclear energy systems based on fast reactors and a closed nuclear fuel cycle.

- The illustration presents a detailed patent-style breakdown, showing mechanical components arranged in precise, labeled views. Its technical layout highlights how each part fits within the overall device.
- Clean linework and structured diagram panels give it a vintage engineering aesthetic. The composition emphasizes clarity and symmetry, mirroring classic instructional schematics.
- Dual wall insulated: keeps beverages hot or cold
- Stainless Steel, BPA Free
- Leak proof lid with clear slider
Rosatom characterises the unit as a 300 MW power unit and as the world’s first power reactor with a lead coolant. Both descriptions are the company’s own, and 300 MW is the planned rating. It is not a measured output, because the reactor has not yet started operation.
Two circuits, two different jobs
Reports about this milestone are easy to misread because the reactor and the turbine hall are separate systems. Rosatom’s September 2026 construction update describes the reactor’s primary circuit, which circulates lead coolant from the core to steam generators in peripheral cavities. The separator-superheaters belong to the power-conversion side, downstream of that heat transfer.

| Element | Where it sits | What it does, per Rosatom |
|---|---|---|
| Lead-coolant primary circuit | Reactor and its peripheral cavities | Circulates lead coolant from the core to steam generators |
| Separator-superheaters | Turbine hall | Prepare steam for the low-pressure turbine cylinder |
Where the project stands
Two schedule items are reported, and they concern different parts of the plant.
- Turbine-unit foundation. World Nuclear News reported that concrete work on this foundation began in May 2026. Rosatom’s plan, as reported on 7 October 2026, is to complete it by the end of 2026, which would allow turbine installation. This is a plan, not confirmation that the foundation is finished or that a turbine has been placed.
- Reactor vessel. Rosatom’s 14 September 2026 update said concrete work on the reactor vessel was scheduled to finish in winter 2027. This is a separate reactor-building milestone and does not set the turbine date.
What the announcement does not establish
- The plant is not reported as operating, and no commissioning date appears in the sources reviewed.
- The turbine has not been confirmed as installed. The only turbine-related timing is the end-2026 foundation plan.
- No independent measurement of the separator-superheaters’ dimensions or performance has been published. The 16-metre and 95-tonne figures come from the project owner.
- No named individual is quoted about the installation.
Readers following the project should watch for a turbine-installation announcement and for updates on the reactor vessel concrete schedule. Those will show whether the 2026 foundation plan and the winter 2027 vessel target are being met.
