To go back in Brave for Android, use Android’s Back button or enabled back gesture. To go forward, open Brave’s three-dot menu and choose Forward. Brave also offers an Android Toolbar shortcut for browser features, but its documentation does not say it adds dedicated Back and Forward arrows.

How do you go forward?
- Tap Brave’s three-dot main menu.
- Look for and tap Forward.
Brave staff places Forward in the main menu. If the menu shows Back when you expect Forward, check the app version and toolbar layout: a user reported that behavior with Brave 1.96.59 while the bottom toolbar was disabled. A Brave staff member acknowledged the report, but the thread does not establish whether a later version fixed it. See the September 2026 report.

Can you add Back and Forward buttons to the Android toolbar?
Brave’s Android Toolbar shortcut is a way to create a one-tap link to browser features, not a documented way to add separate Back and Forward arrows. On Brave version 1.85 or above, the documented path is:

- Tap Settings.
- Tap Appearance.
- Tap Toolbar shortcut and choose a browser feature.
Availability and labels may differ by app version. Brave’s Android feature guidance describes the shortcut for version 1.85 and above.
Does the bottom toolbar change navigation?
The system Back button or gesture remains the stated way to return to the previous page, while Brave staff guidance places Forward in the three-dot menu. However, the September 2026 report connects a possible Forward-menu anomaly to Brave 1.96.59 with the bottom toolbar disabled. That is a report about a specific version and layout, not evidence that every Android installation behaves that way.

Why don’t desktop toolbar instructions match?
Brave’s “Customize your toolbar” Help Center instructions describe the desktop browser; they do not establish equivalent Android controls. Desktop toolbar customization instructions should not be used as a guide to Android’s interface.
