Put your Bose earbuds into Bluetooth pairing mode, then on your iPhone open Settings > Bluetooth, switch Bluetooth on, and tap the Bose name when it appears. The exact way to enter pairing mode depends on the earbud model, so use the matching instructions below rather than assuming one gesture works for every pair.
Pair QuietComfort Earbuds sold from 2024
- For the first connection, open the charging case. Wait for the status light to glow before taking the earbuds out.
- Enter pairing mode. Touch and hold either earbud for four seconds, until you hear “Ready to pair.”
- Select them on your iPhone. Open Settings > Bluetooth, make sure Bluetooth is on, then tap Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (or the name shown) in the device list. Bose’s pairing instructions say to connect through the phone’s Bluetooth list before connecting with the Bose QCE app.
Pair other Bose earbud models
Pairing controls differ by model. For example, the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds and QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) have their own connection instructions. Check the model name in the Bose app, on the case, or in the product documentation, then follow that model’s guide rather than using the four-second hold described above.

For a general iPhone pairing flow, Apple instructs users to put the accessory in discovery mode, open Settings > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on, and tap the accessory name when it appears. Confirm audio is playing through the earbuds
After pairing, start audio on the iPhone. If it plays through another output, select the earbuds as the playback destination using the playback destination control, the Lock Screen, or Control Center. Apple explains these options in its iPhone audio playback guide.

If Bose earbuds do not appear or connect
- Check that the earbuds power on. For QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, Bose recommends seating both earbuds in the charging case, then removing and wearing them and checking for welcome tones. If they do not power on, pairing cannot proceed. Follow the QuietComfort Ultra troubleshooting instructions for that model.
- Try pairing mode again. Confirm Bluetooth is on in iPhone Settings and that the earbuds are discoverable. Keep the devices near each other; Apple gives about 10 metres as the maximum pairing distance for this process.
- Forget the old iPhone entry and pair again. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the information control beside the Bose listing, choose Forget This Device, then put the earbuds back into pairing mode and select them again. Apple documents the removal steps in its Bluetooth device guide.
- For QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, clear stale Bose listings. Bose recommends removing all Bose entries from the iPhone Bluetooth menu, including duplicate names that begin with “LE,” before trying again. The Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) owner’s guide also lists toggling Bluetooth, clearing earbud memory, reseating the earbuds in the case, and resetting as troubleshooting options.
- Restart the iPhone before trying advanced recovery. Bose recommends rebooting the personal device for QuietComfort Ultra connection problems. Use the exact model’s instructions for clearing memory or resetting; Bose distinguishes a reset from restoring factory settings.
Connecting Bose earbuds to more than one device
Bose says the QuietComfort Earbuds sold from 2024 can maintain active connections to two devices through multipoint, but audio plays from only one at a time. If two devices are already connected, connecting another replaces the older connection. This behavior is documented for that model family; check the instructions for other Bose earbuds rather than assuming they work the same way. See Bose’s QuietComfort Earbuds connection guidance.
