BOOX Palma 2 Pro: What a Phone-Sized Color E-Reader Can—and Can’t—Do

The BOOX Palma 2 Pro combines a phone-sized color e-paper screen with Android 15 and optional data-only cellular service. Here are its specifications, trade-offs and differences from Palma 2.

A phone-sized e-reader is not automatically a phone replacement or a pocket-sized tablet. The BOOX Palma 2 Pro is better understood as a compact, Android-based color e-paper reader with optional data-only cellular connectivity. Its specifications make a case for carrying a dedicated reading device; they do not prove how comfortable it is to use, how long its battery lasts, or whether it can replace another device.

What is the BOOX Palma 2 Pro?

BOOX describes the Palma 2 Pro as a 6.13-inch color mobile e-paper device. Its official listing specifies an E Ink Kaleido 3 display, Android 15, an octa-core CPU, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The listing gives the screen a resolution of 300 ppi for black-and-white content and 150 ppi for color; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. BOOX’s product page also lists Google Play and support for third-party apps, so it is not limited to a single e-reader storefront.

BOOX lists support for formats including EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, AZW3, MOBI and TXT. That breadth may matter if your books, documents and reading apps come from different sources. It does not, by itself, establish how a particular app or document will look or respond on the device.

What does its color display trade away?

The clearest qualification in the specifications is the difference between monochrome and color resolution: BOOX lists 300 ppi for black-and-white content but 150 ppi for color. If your reading is mostly novels or other text, the monochrome figure is the more relevant one. If you want color illustrations or other color content, the lower listed color resolution is part of the trade-off. These figures do not establish real-world color quality or refresh behavior.

How is the Palma 2 Pro different from the Palma 2?

BOOX positions the Palma 2 as the monochrome option and the Palma 2 Pro as the color model with cellular capability. The two official product listings share several headline specifications, but differ in display, memory, Android version and slot configuration.

Specification Palma 2 Pro Palma 2
Display 6.13-inch E Ink Kaleido 3 color; 300 ppi black-and-white, 150 ppi color (BOOX product page) 6.13-inch Carta 1200 monochrome; 300 ppi (BOOX product page)
Operating system Android 15 (BOOX product page) Android 13 (BOOX product page)
RAM 8 GB (BOOX product page) 6 GB (BOOX product page)
Storage and slot 128 GB internal; hybrid slot for two SIM cards or one SIM plus microSD; expandable storage listed up to 2 TB (BOOX product page) 128 GB internal; dedicated microSD slot (BOOX product page)
Connectivity listed Data-only SIM; 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G support, plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (BOOX product page) Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (BOOX product page)
Shared listed specifications Octa-core CPU and 3,950 mAh battery (BOOX product pages)

The choice is not simply “newer” versus “older.” The Pro’s color layer, more RAM and newer listed Android version may suit different priorities than the Palma 2’s monochrome screen and dedicated microSD slot. Choose based on whether color and cellular data matter to you, and on how you want to use expandable storage.

This is a characteristic of all e-ink products, not a defect. If it doesn't meet your expectations, you may return the product under our return policy. However, please note this is not considered a product fault.

What does the cellular slot actually support?

BOOX says the Pro’s hybrid slot can hold either two SIM cards or one SIM and a microSD card. The product page describes the SIM connection as data-only and lists 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G network support. It does not establish voice-call support or compatibility with every carrier. Before relying on cellular data, check whether your carrier supports the device in your country and on your plan; no specific carrier compatibility is confirmed here.

That slot creates a practical storage choice: using a SIM and a microSD card together is possible according to BOOX, but a two-SIM configuration uses the same hybrid slot. The manufacturer lists expansion up to 2 TB. The Palma 2, by contrast, has a dedicated microSD slot and is listed with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

What else is in the published specifications?

BOOX lists a 3,950 mAh battery, front light with warm and cold color temperature, A-GPS, a 16 MP rear camera, Bluetooth 5.1, fingerprint recognition and an approximate weight of 175 g. These are manufacturer-provided specifications, not evidence of tested battery endurance, camera quality, comfort or performance.

Accessories and listed US prices

On the official US BOOX pages accessed in 2026, the Palma 2 Pro was listed at US$379.99 and the Magnetic 2-in-1 Protective Case, which BOOX identifies as compatible with the Pro, at US$21.99. Prices and availability can change, so check the device listing and case listing before buying. BOOX also says the Palma 2 Pro supports its InkSense Plus stylus, sold separately; the cited product information does not establish compatibility with generic styluses.

Who should consider it?

The Palma 2 Pro is worth considering if you want a compact e-paper reader with a color display, Android apps and the option of data-only cellular connectivity, and you are comfortable checking local network compatibility yourself. Its published specifications also make it relevant to readers who want document-format flexibility and expandable storage.

It is a less straightforward fit if your priority is maximum monochrome resolution, a dedicated microSD slot, or a device already confirmed to work with your carrier. And specifications alone cannot answer whether the screen, refresh behavior, size or battery life will suit your routine. Those questions require hands-on evaluation rather than inference from the product listing.
