Boomi says it was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for API Management, marking its second consecutive year in that category. Gartner’s public report page confirms that its assessment was published on 28 September 2026, covers 17 vendors and includes Boomi; the detailed vendor analysis is not publicly available. The distinction matters: the Leader placement is Boomi’s account of its result, not a Gartner endorsement or a recommendation to choose Boomi.
What Gartner’s public report confirms
Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for API Management was published on 28 September 2026. Its public abstract says the report assesses 17 vendors to help software engineering leaders select suitable options. The analysts named are Shameen Pillai, Nicholas Carter and John Santoro.

The listed vendors are Amazon Web Services, Axway, Boomi, Google, Gravitee, IBM, Kong, Microsoft, Postman, Salesforce (MuleSoft), SAP, Sensedia, SmartBear, Traefik Labs, Tyk, Workato and WSO2. Gartner describes Magic Quadrants as graphical positioning of providers in a market using two dimensions: Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision.
What Boomi says about its placement
In an announcement dated 30 September 2026, Boomi said it was recognized as a Leader for the second consecutive year. The public Gartner abstract establishes the report’s publication date, scope and vendor list, but does not provide the detailed vendor-specific analysis. Boomi’s placement claim should therefore be understood as the company’s description of its result; the full report is access-gated.
#1 Best Overall
Gartner states that its publications present the opinions of its research organization, do not endorse depicted vendors and do not advise buyers to select only the vendors with the highest ratings. A Leader label is one input to evaluation, not proof that a product is superior for every organization or suitable for a particular technical environment.
What Boomi says its API Management product includes
Boomi describes its offering as covering the API lifecycle, from discovery and design through development, security, governance, productization, publication, onboarding, consumption and analytics. The company says its tools can discover APIs across distributed gateways, automate security and quality assessments, enforce policies, govern API versions and products, connect with third-party gateways, and convert API products into MCP servers.
Rank #2
Boomi also presents the product as a governance layer across gateways and as part of a broader platform for APIs, integration, data, automation and agent management. Its public materials name support across Boomi, cloud and third-party gateways, including AWS, Azure, MuleSoft, Apigee and Kong. These are vendor-described capabilities, not findings independently confirmed in Gartner’s public abstract.
Why API management matters to AI-agent programs
APIs provide controlled interfaces through which software—and increasingly AI agents—can reach business systems and data. As organizations move from isolated AI pilots toward programs connected to operational tools, they need to know which APIs exist, who or what can call them, which policies apply, and how access and changes are governed.
Boomi CEO Steve Lucas framed the connection this way: “APIs are how AI actually reaches the systems that run a business, and that makes API management the difference between an AI pilot and an AI program.” That is the company executive’s view of the role APIs play; it is not a Gartner quotation or an independent assessment of Boomi’s product.
Boomi’s MCP-server capability is relevant to organizations exploring a standardized way to expose tools and data to AI agents. The practical question is not simply whether a platform supports MCP, but whether it can apply the organization’s identity, security, governance and monitoring requirements to the resulting access paths.

How to compare Boomi with other API management vendors
Start with the Gartner dimensions as a framework, then test the product against your architecture and operating needs. A quadrant position cannot answer whether a vendor supports your gateways, deployment constraints, governance model or agent plans.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Gateway coverage and federation: Confirm support for the gateways you already operate, including the specific versions and deployment patterns in use. Check whether one inventory and policy model can span them or whether capabilities vary by gateway.
- Discovery and inventory: Determine how APIs are found across teams and environments, how duplicates or obsolete interfaces are handled, and how reliably the inventory stays current.
- Security and governance: Validate policy enforcement, security and quality checks, identity integration, version controls and auditability against your own requirements—not just feature descriptions.
- Lifecycle and developer workflow: Examine how teams design, publish, document, productize and version APIs, and how consumers discover, request access to and onboard to them.
- Analytics and operations: Ask which usage, performance and governance signals are available, how they can be exported, and whether they cover all managed gateways.
- Deployment and architecture: Check where management components run, how they connect to gateways and enterprise systems, and what operational dependencies or data flows the design creates.
- MCP and agent use: If agents are in scope, test how tool exposure, permissions, policy changes and monitoring work end to end. Treat MCP support as one part of a wider control design.
Ask each shortlisted vendor to demonstrate these workflows using representative APIs and gateways from your environment. Compare implementation effort and operational ownership alongside features; the best fit depends on what your teams need to govern and how their systems are already deployed.

What remains unavailable in the public materials
The detailed 2026 Gartner report contains the vendor-specific analysis, but its Boomi strengths, cautions, evaluation detail and precise positioning cannot be established from the public abstract. They should not be inferred from Boomi’s announcement or from its feature descriptions. Boomi also cites more than 30,000 customers and 800+ partners in its announcement; those are company-reported figures, not Gartner findings.
