Choose the right BOINC download
BOINC is the client that connects your device to volunteer-computing projects; it is not itself a single science project. Its official download pages list separate routes for Windows, Linux, and Android. The recommended release is the normal choice. The development release is described as potentially unstable and intended for testing.

Download BOINC for Windows
- Open the official BOINC download listings.
- Choose the Windows entry that matches your device: Intel-compatible 64-bit or, for a Windows 11 ARM device, ARM 64-bit.
- Select the recommended release for ordinary use and download its installer. Use the development listing only if you are testing and accept that it may be unstable.
- Run the downloaded installer and follow its prompts. Start BOINC when installation is complete; its first-run setup asks you to choose a project.
BOINC Android APK and other Android routes
The official listing identifies Android 4.1 and later and four supported architectures: ARM, AArch64, x86, and x86_64. Select the APK that matches your device rather than assuming every Android package fits every phone or tablet.
- APK: Use the Android entry on the official download listings. The page lists recommended and development builds; the development APK is marked as potentially unstable and for testing.
- F-Droid: BOINC’s official listing also identifies F-Droid as a distribution route.
- App stores: BOINC Central names Google Play and Amazon Appstore. The official listing specifically notes Amazon Appstore for Amazon Fire tablets.
Check the current BOINC platform listing or the relevant store before installing, since availability and release listings may change. The BOINC Central join page describes the setup sequence and Android store routes.

Install BOINC on Linux
Linux installation depends on your distribution and device architecture. BOINC’s Linux page covers x64 and ARM64, points to packages for several distributions, and includes Raspberry Pi in its package information. It is not a single universal installer.

- Open the official Linux download page.
- Check whether your system is x64 or ARM64 and use the package instructions for your distribution.
- Follow those distribution-specific instructions to install BOINC, then run it and select a project when prompted.

What happens after installation?
Running BOINC starts the setup process, which asks you to choose a project to support. BOINC is the common client; the project you select determines the scientific work your computer can help process. See the official install page for the first-run overview.
